When you tried it, was someone calling your house? If it works like Dial-Up in PCs, that could cause it to say its busy. If you ever get the chance, definitely try the BBA. It is much easier to use. Seeing you are using Dial-Up, I found a guide that might help: http://www.dreamcast-scene.com/guides/pc-dc-server-guide-win7/

It's not that my dialup doesn't work, it's that my model 1 pal Dreamcast doesn't read configuration in Dreamkey and doesn't load XDP after bootup. I've discussed this with 4 different people who also had the same problem, I think pal had a major malfunction or something. My dialup works fine.

You're NTSC Dreamcast is fine though, you have it lucky not being European shitcast.

Also the pc-dc looks complicated and I couldn't do that without guide through Skype or something.

I remember hearing that the NTSC Dreamcasts have faster modems so if you can get an American Dreamcast modem, it might fix it. Our modems are 56k whereas yours are 33.something K. Then again, I could be wrong on that.

It does look difficult and I haven't tried it so I have no idea if it works still.

You are right, but the problem I'm experiencing is that the model 1 pal resets the backup dreamkey 3.0 disc after I try to press configuration. The XDP disk instantly resets after the SEGA logo. I know that this happens to a few people, as well. If it let me get past the button without resetting, I could then put my dialup number in and connect to the internet really easily. The model 1 pal dreamcast keeps resetting the disk at a specific point, and making other backups with certain other things in diskjuggler doesn't change that. It is a really weird problem, but then again it's a European Dreamcast. It's bound to be a piece of shit, lol

But it doesn't matter anyway, I am getting a factory sealed Dreamkey 3.0 disk in the post in 3-4 days. So I'll keep you posted on if it works. :)

So I have recently received an official of DreamKey 3.0 and am happy to report that it loads everything up fine and lets me connect to my dialup ISP (unlike PlanetWeb that uses NTSC protocol) Thanks everyone for the support and I hope this info helps people in the future who have suffered the same problem with Model 1 Pal

Glad to hear it! Another Dreamcast successfully online again. We just need mine and a few more then we can TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!! lol just kidding. It really is good to hear the Dreamcast can still go online over a decade since SegaNet shutdown.

Yep! And it's loading in dialup 33k modem at 5 seconds per page! (that's faster than some 56k's speeds)

Wow, that is fast for dial-up. I was a little kid when dial-up was in the transition to broadband. I do remember AOL though. That 56K modem sound effect is still stuck in my head.

How long does it take to get on this page and post a response? You may need the DC's mouse and keyboard controllers.

Yeah, I definitely need those. It takes forever to type in stuff and kind of wastes my dialup minutes :p (0.5p every minute) I havent' tried asmgames.com, but will try soon.

I haven't heard the dialup tone in yeaaaars. Haha!

I have the tone in mp3 format saved on my laptop. I saved it for YouTube videos but never got around to using it.

It's specifically the US Dreamcasts that had the 56k modem - both the JP and PAL versions were originally 33.6k, although in both cases the later production switched over to using the 56k chip because the 33.6k one had been discontinued. They can be freely swapped, and in practice it makes little difference for gaming because the 56k modem is only 56k in the downlink direction and uses V34 (I.E. 33.6k) signalling in the uplink direction - it does help for web browsing, but I really can't recommend using the DC as a web browser anyway.

Glad you got your issue sorted. However, I had to merge a lot of your posts. Please use the edit button if there haven't been any replies within a week. Also, we have a multi-quote button for quoting multiple posts at once.

Lastly, you posted this here, then again in your own topic in the modding forum. This has nothing to do with modding hardware, and please don't repeat questions all over the forum. Think before you post - which forum would be best to ask this? Bumping a previous topic on the same issue is, of course, fine! ;)

    That said... welcome!

I don't think there is a such thing as NTSC and PAL protocols when it comes to dialup. Planet Web worked fine for me
