Cool. There are very few things as adrenalin pumping as a fast kart when it comes to 4 wheels and an engine.
I like the TR7. And I really like that old MR2. What a gem! I'm still driving on my assumed bad wheel bearing, but only because it hasn't gotten any worse. Hell, sometimes it doesn't make any noise whatsoever (it barely makes any noise anyway), so I'm wondering if it's something else, and if not - I wonder what changes between it making a bit of noise and it being completely silent. Weird. And yeah, yeah... I need to just get it fixed... but it just isn't in the wallet right now.
Hmm just looked at the original poll again and does this strike anyone else ass odd or do you do it too: I prefer manual transmisson IRL but in-game I prefer automatic? BTW I am a proponent of Barc0des semi-clutch... I found my way there too, though on some occasions I use the gearbox to brake too (going down a steep hill)
I use automatic in games, but basically that's just because I'm too lazy to learn the optimal shift pattern for every car in every game. I don't imagine I'm alone on that, manual shifting takes a lot of learning. For something like Sega rally where there's only two cars and a few tracks I should probably make the switch... but yeah. Lazy.
I think when it comes to gaming, automatic is just so much fun. I mean, I'm a master with manual transmission after much practice over the years but I just don't find using manual in a game fun. Part of it is laziness as you say, Alchy but for me it's more about the loss of fun.
I think part of the problem have in IRL it is second nature which is helped by the RPM/vibrations 'speaking' to you but in game you are disconnected from all of that and the force feedback effect is pitiful. Also IRL iIm focusing on the road and other road users, but in game I'm concentrating too hard on hitting the racing line and ramming the other cars off the track
It looks to be in great condition. Nice to see someone take care of their car like that. There is no speed advantage in Sega Rally AFAIR. Ridge Racer does have an advantage though.
I'm pretty sure manual leads to better times once you get used to it, though like I say I never bothered.
All new night drive bumper cam video made last night on the back country roads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVNedlKrFGg Yakumo
I use manual in every racing game I can. Now keep in mind, my main 'controller' is a logitech g25, combine this with a good racing sim (either iRacing, rfactor or GTR2) and its actually really close. In fact, before actually driving a real manual, I bought the g25 to help me learn, and it seemed to help! Ryan
I splashed out 170 pounds on a new set of official Subaru carbon fibre type center console panels and aircon vent covers this week. Actually, they've been on order for about 1 month. They look really smart in real life. Far better than the standard set up. Yakumo
haha i never cared for manuel seems like alt to think about while driving, though most cars in europe are manuel so i should probably learn since i will be going there for a few months to visit family soon
Trust me, once you know how to drive you will NEVER think about the gear change because it becomes second nature. The sound and the power from the engine tells you when to change.
Gotta admit, I always thought the same as dopesoner. plus I remember when I was little my mom was learning manual and the car turned off at every stop :-0 so those memories always stuck with me. Btw, yakumo, I envy your accent... not that I would want to have it considering that I'm not a British man living in Japan for so many years...
My accent is a mix of scouse (Liverpool) "Queen's English" from school and shit thanks to Japan. Quite a mess really Yakumo
ya i have heard its cake even my gf has driver her dad mustang which is stick, at one point i wanted to learn because i was trying to buy an 06 civic si, but ended up getting the four door manual model, parents thought it would be better for driving people, i hardly drive anyone but myself and my gf lol haha ya i went with one of my buddies to san francisco and the car kept f'ing up because the streets are damn steep and he hadnt had to much experience with manual was a bit scary i must may haha yakumo how did you end up in japan from britain? (im just curious)
