Nothing is. The issue is the look of the car if you're a tall man. Especially if you are middle aged. Tall Middle aged guys just look stupid in small convertible sports car.
I'm not middle-aged, yet, but I know if I were in a Miata/MX-5 I would look a little weird. Doesn't stop me from wanting one as a second car, though! (I gotta haul stuff, so it's out of the question as my only ride) There are way too many cars I want as a second/project car. I think I'm going to settle for a cheap old late-80s or early 90s BMW 3-series. Something to work-on, and then eventually have fun. Not to excited about a convertible. I may end up with a roadster of some sort, but something that was made that way like an old MGB or Midget or Alfa Spider.
^ a 1960s Datsun roadster might be right up your alley. They are not very common on the road but seem to be frequently for sale for cheap (like 1st gen MX5 cheap).
Ah the Copen, if the middle aged man was wearing a red shirt and a blue wool hat and had a older gentleman with a fulll white bearded sitting next to them then you would convince yourself that Noddy was real.
there actually was one for sale here on Craigslist less than a year ago. I wanted it so bad. I think it was about $3500 or so. Had some minor weird problems like a turn signal that didn't work and something else. What a steal.
Figured I would revive my old thread today. Yakumo, anything new with you? Upgrades/changes? Nothing has changed with me. Same car, same hail damage (or maybe a little more). I've got a leaky front tire that is driving me a little crazy. Takes a week or so to go down enough to take action but it always sneaks up on me. I should just get it repaired but... I made a new friend who works on cars all the time as a hobby (old junkers and project cars) so I've had some good fun staying up late in his heated garage drinking beer and getting my hands dirty. Good times!
My pleasure mobile failed it's smog test today. Apparently the NOX levels are too high... time to go see a mechanic. :/
Nothing new with my car but I did have a leaky tire like you and yep, it was a 2 week one. I did get it fixed in the end. It turns out there was a 4 inch nail in it! All is good now though but I will need to rotate my back and front tires around. The front ones are a little more bare than the back. Best to get the most ware out of them before things become dangerous.
I was somehow smart enough to rotate mine before winter. More tread on the front for when it snows. Would have sucked if I had forgotten!
LOL! - "With a little luck we'll get behind some nutcase who can't drive" I could hear a slight liverpool accent in there when you said that as well.
You can take the scoucer out of Liverpool but you'll never truly remove the scouce out if the Liverpudlian its a 2006 STi Sports Wagon, the type they call Hawk eyes. I bought it retro fitted from Tokyo, probably to attract less attention from the police. The car has a front mounted cooler behind the numberplate which is why there's no air intake scoop on the bonnet. Looks good but I would rather have the scoop. Its also slightly higher off the ground at the front because I kept scrapping the front on the bloody ramp in to the company car park.
LMAO! I f*n knew it. As soon as I heard those first few words, there it was a definite liverpudlian inflection there. Could say for sure after I heard the rest of the video. Especially at the part about there not being enough toll booth attendants...lol NOBODY on this earth complains like a scouser, its an art you lot have locked down. EDIT: Forgot, comedy as well. Nobody does comedy like a scouser (see John bishop among others).
What transmission do I prefer in my car? Depends on the conditions. For general everyday driving: stick. Any sort of racing (drag, track, ect.): built automatic. I have a 1984 Toyota 4x4 with the 22R carbureted engine and 5 speed stick. Fun as hell to drive. Has 31" (US inches) BF Goodrich mud terrain tires that I can light up on lose dirt with a simple mash of skinny pedal even in second gear. It was a free wrecked truck from California (GOD the emissions system...) I stripped down into a redneck truck. Ditched everything not needed to make it run. That includes most of the interior, all factory wiring (built my own to reconnect the essentials, had to get the 10 miles of wire for the emissions out somehow...), all creature comforts, doors, and tailgate. A fun little truck for doing junk around the huge private property I live on. I'll throw a video of it up later. Some of you will get a kick out of how I modified the exhaust to get rid of the catalytic converter.
I prefer automatic (though I have a manual license), since I'm both lazy and don't really care about cars. In my view, a car's operation should be nothing more than turning, go faster and stop. A clutch and stick serves neither of these functions, they're simply part of the process to make the end result happen. An unnecessary step if you ask me. Though I will confess that shifting gears in a manual car does make you feel like a race car driver. While it's not strictly related to the topic, it is on the topic of "driving pleasure" so I thought I'd mention it. Driving actually kinda scares me. When I was a kid, I would have a reoccurring nightmare where everyone in the car would suddenly vanish, leaving me alone in the car, trying to control it, but it can't be stopped or slowed down. After I started driving for real, these nightmares went away, but since I moved down Brisbane and no longer need to drive, these nightmares have started to come back. Only they're different now, I can control the car, but either the breaks take a LONG time to slow the car down or I take a corner too fast and end up in the wrong lane or on the sidewalk.
ah must be annoying not being able to stretch its legs least fuel economy wont be too shabby then . just picked up my A5 3.0 tdi back up from the tuners first blip from 2nd to 4th just left me with this childish grin
Great video Yakumo. I'll never get used to all those kei cars. I know they pay lower taxes, but it's really that much lower to be worth it? Also, do people look weird at you driving an Impreza Wagon? That might look like a Hummer to someone driving those little things. lol sonicdude10, that looks like fun! Looks like something from Motorstorm.
