I made a video of my new Android powered Navigation System. It's really nice and far better than the stock stuff they fit in to cars.

I just thought I'd chime-in with an update. I still have the Protege5, it still looks like total shit with 3 heavy hail storms worth of damage that has also caused the clearcoat to come off of (now about 60%) of the hood.

    BUT.

Soon I will have my dream car (well, realistic dream car :p).

I've been working at the (under new ownership) local Subaru dealership for the past 3 months (and a few days) as their photographer. Speaking of dreams, it's almost a dream job too! It's a very high-class dealership, all the salesmen (which we don't call salesmen) are non-commissioned so they're all really great people who really want to help you find the right car.
Needless to say, I'm saving up currently to get my 02-07 WRX (wagon, of course) (newer the better, probably, and I'll get the best thing I can afford when the time comes).
    YEAH!
And I get to drive cars all day, photograph them, edit photos, work with the service department... You might wonder, "How many cars can you possibly need to photograph every day?" Well, the dealership has the main Subaru location then two umbrella used-car locations (my office is at the bigger of those two) and due to the volume of sales those three places actually have I photograph anywhere from 15-25 cars a day (full detailed shoots) or a combination of those and many more partial shoots (when we get a car in we get some quick shots to get it online and in our inventory as soon as possible - if it is clean and almost ready to go).
Here's some of my work for good measure. :)

I also manage the inventory online, working very close with the previous photographer (who now heavily manages the main inventory system and works with the creative department and a million other things).
It's pretty awesome. I get to make cars look good, even crappy ones. :)

Shot TWO WRX STI sedans today! I've only edited and uploaded one, but I'll get the other one online tonight. The first one is the best, though, since it was nice and cloudy this morning and the shoot turned out absolutely perfect. The second one, which is black and in Limited trim, was shot with the sun blaring down so it's a little iffy looking. I'll edit this post when that one is online.

    Full set:

Copy+paste, please. (link will work until the car is sold, perhaps longer)

A few selections from the set:

I think list price is like $36000 or so. The Limited is probably a bit more.

Wow, that's 3.5 million yen. Is that new or used? A used but mint 2012 model here would cost 2.7 million yen. That would be a shitty automatic though. The manual maybe a bit cheaper. I still can't aford one right now though. My limit is 2 million yen. I guess I'll have to wait another year.

Brand spakin' new (came off the shipping truck less than a week ago).
I think they're redesigning the 2015s anyway so either you save a bunch more and get one of those or the old style will drop significantly I bet!

That's not a bad price for a brand new model. Not bad at all. That's about what we'd pay over here I guess.

While the sti is awesome for curves, I found it lacking horsepower for the straight american roads.

How much do you need for 55mph speedlimits though? ^^

us 'mericans will not be satisfied until cars have the power to launch so hard that the act of dropping the hammer results in instant death.

I think you don't need great top speed for the main reason that you'll never be able to use it. I've lost my license twice from speeding. I learnt my lesson the hard and very expensive way. For me, getting to say 100mph fast with constant power is good enough. Pull all the way up to 100MPH. That will do me and something the Impreza posted above or even my old 2007 Impreza can (could) do. Well, mine is loosing some power these days :(

By the way, I don't think I've posted this video here. I took my car up the wet and foggy mountain road the other week to test out my new camera stand for the car. I'm not saying how fast I was driving for obvious reasons but it really does look slow on the video. Maybe because of the cockpit view and frame rate at which the video runs? Who knows. Anyway, here's the video. I almost lost the car at 6:40. As I was coming around the corner the back end slided out but I caught it just in time.

I live on a small island with a ton of cops. You would all hate driving here.

Seriously, I've been pulled over 3 times this year, none of which were for speeding, but for 2 stop signs and using my phone. I only got warnings for the stop signs because of the sort of permissible circumstances, but I have a splendid court date next month for the phone!

On topic though, I love driving a Prius. It's not a fancy car that has a gazillion horsepower or whatever but It has a nice "cruising" feeling when you drive it. I've driven other cars before, but I've always favored the Prius. Please don't hate me.

If you are using the electric motor then I can see why you like the Prius. Electric motors are great for touring because the power is always there when you put your foot down. I'm not a fan of the Prius myself but I am thinking about maybe buying the sport Toyota Aqua or whatever it's called. That's a hybrid with a very poky electric motor which really pulls. It pulls more than my STi Impreza! Plus the sports looks like a hot hatch made by BMW that Toyota. It is a nice tempting car. The downside it that the 1.6ltr petrol engine is Ok but nothing that would blow your socks off. Still, for work journeys I'd be using the electric motor. But then there's another drawback. I love the sound form my Impreza. Driving in silence is something I don't like. Oh, what to do?

Careful out there, Yakumo. Don't want to see your 'prez hug a tree!

I think I'm getting closer to my WRX. I've been looking at them more and more and dreaming about them lately. Can't wait! Gonna do a proper blue 02/03 (bug-eye headlights, big fog lights) and then get some sti rims and make them white. And then I'll get some winter wheels/tires (just steel 15" rims with cheap all-weather tires) for good measure.
I noticed the 08 model is getting closer to my pricerange... but I don't know if I like it enough. It would be much nicer on the inside, though...

Pfft I slid my motorbike for the fun of it, even in the dry! It was expensive on tyres though, especially as I liked to use the softer grippier stuff over the more durable rubber.

My money is on you losing traction because of the fallen leaves on the road + changing speed and/or direction more than the rain.

when I was single I saved the money for years till I was able to afford the second hand Mazada Miata - that's original MX-5 NA6CE.
Had blast with that thing - on weekend went to almost every national park and other surrounding country to explore the new spot for driving. Nothing beat the top down driving - the car, not me :p - in early morning through the national park with nothing but the tall trees, wild life, light haze from early fog and then the tuned exhaust note from the car. ^ ^

That road was very slippy. Even on the straights you could spin the wheels due to low grip. Probably because of moss and shit from all the trees plus is was very wet. The speed limit is 30kph or was it 40kph but I as doing between 60kph and 80kph. Not rocket speed but enough for a road like that in those conditions. Next time I'm thinking of recording at 60fps to keep the sense of speed. In car videos ar 30fps look. slow

hehe, I've not done so yet. I would love some sort of outside camera that I could attatch to the side of my car. All my current cameras are too expensive for that plus I need some sort of bracket.

It may not be as iconic as the older bug eye model but the 08 model is a much better car.
