I was listening to a death metal song the other day (roar) and suddenly they went into the theme... It took me a second to figure out why it was so familiar all of a sudden. There's a 2008 WRX wagon in Oklahoma (a couple hours south of me) with only 29k miles on it. It's priced about as much as the 06/07s are... with that low of miles it should be at least book value, which is many thousands of dollars more. I should call about it... http://www.aandgautos.net/detail.aspx?id=3703089&PrefID=0&.aspx It looks perfect. They also have a red WRX sedan, also a 2008, with still-low-but-more miles (46k) and it is priced more appropriately. Maybe the wagon has a salvage title. I dunno. http://www.aandgautos.net/detail.aspx?id=2981210&PrefID=0&.aspx If I get a raise (just hit 6 months at my job a week+ ago) I think I could justify the payments. Unfortunately I won't have anything to trade-in toward a nice down-payment... because I plan on keeping the Protege5 around and selling it privately after I have the time to do some body work.
that is a very good price for the 2008 model. I'm not much of a fan of that model myself but the price is indeed right. My car has now done just over 68'000 miles! Still feels like new
If I had a lot of money and a lot of time on my hands, I would get an 02/03 (bugeye) and then a 05-07 parts car and try to swap the newer interior (like yours, Yakumo) into the bugeye. Not sure if this could even be done... but it sure would be sweet. The 02-04 interior is boring, it's basically exactly the same as my Mazda. Same layout, same dated feel. But... I just gotta have those damn headlights and giant fogs. Woe is me! The things one does for a little bit of style.
One of the great things about this forum is the coming together of world wide folk! Being in the UK, my exposure is to manual drive cars, in fact since learning to drive in 1999 I've not yet driven an automatic car! As for the pleasure of driving, for me it's probably my most favorite hobby. A car must be something I like, then it must be something fun. There is nothing better than a sunny day and a quiet narrow twisty road
You said it. Actually, I made a video yesterday which features a sunny day, narrow windy "mountain road" as well as some old tug ships and docks I'm going to edit it tonight and upload it to YouTube. I'll post the video here once it's up.
I was driving my friend around town the other day, and when he realized I had a stick-shift, it absolutely blew his mind. Manual transmission cars haven't entirely disappeared in the US, but they are becoming increasingly rare. You'd have a hard time finding a sedan with a manual transmission (which is what my car is), though it might be easier if you're looking for a sports car. I really dislike driving automatics. I can do it, but it isn't anywhere near as enjoyable, even in an otherwise good car. I can't imagine ever buying an automatic; hopefully my current car will last a long time.
If you think finding a manual in the states is hard just try japan. It really is hard. There's only a handful and they are all sporty type cars or stupid vans. Still, at least the cars I like are still manual (for now). I think only really Europe enjoys manual transmission. I know men in the UK love manual as do Germans.
I can only speak for Austria and the cars my family/friends drive/used to drive. Not a single one has ever had a car with automatic transmission. Even when we were younger, most of us had manual 50cc bikes, like a moto cross, vespa or puch. It's probably the same in the rest of central europe.
Stick is great, but when we bought our car I couldn't find a decent manual. Love my 4th gen Maxima though, best generation IMO. My uncle has one as well
What's a Maxima? Is it a US car? Never mind. A bit of Googling shows me it's an American Nissan model.
Just watched your video, Yakumo. I really enjoyed it. Japan looks beautiful; I really hope I get to go there some day. I was talking to a friend of mine earlier about Japan, and he was telling me about the big Gundam arcade games that you go inside, and it moves around while you're playing. I think you showed those in one of your arcade videos. We were also talking about Japanese words that are based on English words, but neither of us were very sober; and thus we could only think of a few.
After years and years of wanting one I finally grabbed myself a 106 GTi. It's a fixer upper but I'm super excited to get started on it (when it stops raining). Plans are to de-lower it and get it all back to factory standard. At present it has been re-cammed, re-mapped, has an engine brace fitted, has badly painted alloys and of course has been fitted with hard low springs on the front. It cost me very little to buy and with a bit of work it should be worth a nice amount. Off to get a new cat fitted tomorrow as the current one has blown through.
That looks great! I am so looking forward to my project car when it exists. I need something else to dump money into, haha! Keep us updated as it comes along! Or, at least, keep -me- updated!
Those 106-GTI's are getting very thin on the ground because ever chav and his Rottweiler did exactly what someone has done to that one then drove it like a twat. Real shame because 'as standard' they're a really nice little car.
