In Oregon hahaha They are so behind the times here it's not even funny. When I moved here in high school from California their school standards were behind as well so I got off easy. Personally I still find having a GBASP around(wish I did) is superior to using the DS even though it's backwards compatible. Games just don't look right to me when playing them on a DS
I still have a DSlite. I haven't even heard of any games that even support the camera; bar a wario ware one that was slated. The DSlite is a lovely little console. Never seen L/R buttons break. The screens are plenty big enough, and they are very very sharp with nice colours. Comparing my DS to my sisters, her colours are deeper and more saturated, but thats slight. I really think, personally, the DSi is bit of a waste of extra cash. If you just want to play DS games, get a DSlite. The DSi interests me for the DSi ware, but I don't get much time to play games as it is anyway so I don't really care. Cameras are gimmick really. The XL, I would certinly like one, but its all that extra money. Also, the screens are the same resolution, but much bigger. I don't think thats the best of ideas- you'll be able to see the pixels much easier. HAvent seen one in person so cant be an accurate judge but, as I see it, DS games have been made for a long time to support and expect a smaller screen, so we may as well play them as they were intended. Speakers don't go very loud on DSlite but when do they ever on a portable console. Only issue I have with screens is that there is some slight motion blur, but come on, this is a cheap games console, not an HDTV costing hundreds of pounds. With the new DS approaching next year, I would get a DSlite. Cheaper, plays GBA games, I think it is fantastic. If you don't want the gimmicky cameras, DSiware store, or the bigger screens (at the probable expense of sharpness and clarity of games desined for smalle rscreens), get the Lite. If any of those features appeal to you, get the other console(s)! Have a google for some reviews. http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/26/nintendo-dsi-xl-review/
The Phat easily overpowers the pitiful Lite speakers. And so do the Dsi's from what I've heard. And along with the motion blur colors are so saturated they blend together and different shades of the same color are less apparent making things look ugly compared to how balanced the LCD of the Phat is.(not brightness wise but color saturation wise)
I think myself pretty fussy when it comes to displays and screens, but it really isn't as bad as you make it sound. Most people won't even notice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGTo3E5Y02M Took the liberty of a quick and dirty video. I've played through loads of DS games with no real issue.
Your right I didn't notice it at all. Does the DSiware even have any good games? That is the only thing that is making me think about buying a DSi.
Erm, thats something you'll have to research into yourself. I personally love the 'Art Style' series of games, but not enough to buy a DSi to play them. Erm. Here is a list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DSiWare_games_and_applications Heres a top 20. http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/11/top_20_dsiware_games_in_usa_5th_nov I think the DSiware store is a nice extra at most. Not a reason to buy the console- wheras it's essetial for the Wii!
Oh, and Vosse mentions the DSlite having yellow tinited bottom screens in some instances. Well, there have been reports of that with the DSi XL, too. hatergamer, if you want any specific videos or photos of the DSlite system, I'm happy to take some for you, if that helps.
My nintendo portables want 1 Dollar Virtual GameBoy downloadable software. When will this happen for my portables? Please tell me now. The DSiXL has no GBA port - despite the fact that one would easily fit in that huge frame. This kicks homebrew emulation in the balls leaving no money sucking alternative either. This is quite inconvenient for me.
Yeah; if GBA games are at all important to you, the best way to play them is arguably on a DSlite.. Oh, and if you want to use Wifi.. DSlite only supports outdated WEP security. DSi supports WPA/WPA2 I believe. So, annoyingly, I can't use my DSlite on my wireless network. Not that there is even much reason to.
Can you show me the yellow tint? I have never heard of that problem and I just want to see if it's really bad.
I haven;'t experience it myself. Vosse says that the DSlite has it sometimes; havent had that myself. Some reviews on Amazon UK mention the XL has a yellow tint. I'll just grab a couple of shots of our DS consoles. Ehere you go. Its so difficult getting good photos. These are normal tints that you get with any LCD display and you do not notice in normal use- only in direct comparisons like this. In use, the screens are razor sharp/ The middle DS has slightly better colour saturation but.. it is all such a non issue. The DSlite has a great screen end of. If the top/bottom screens had mismatched tint, I would pick fault, but they dont. These screen are all on the top brightness for comparison. Personally I always use the second level of brightness, though I turn it down to minimum when playing in the dark.
I don't know why they have that issue. It's irritating ya know? I'm pretty sure the phat didn't have that issue. It's like they can't just make one that's "just right" There's always gotta be something wrongOH: I'm not sure.
Thanks randy. The tint doesn't seem all that bad. I don't see how that would bother people. I'm still not sure which one to get but so far I see it like this. DS Lite Pros: GBA slot, cheaper, better looking (in my opinion), and Better battery (15-19 hours at best) Cons: No DSiware games, No camera, Takes longer to charge (3 hours), and Very likely to be discontinued (which means no more accessories) DSi Pros: DSiware compatible, 0.3 mega pixel camera, Charges quickly (little more than 2 hours), and a SD Slot Cons: No GBA slot, More expensive then DS lite by about 40 dollars, Smaller battery life then the DS lite (9-14 hours at best), and no graphical advancements from the DS lite (Both TFT LCD with 260,000 colors)
Charge time is irrelevant, surely. Vosse, I hate when companies cant just manufacture a product without fault. My girlf's Xbox pad has a squishy RB and a dicky Dpad down. Mine's analog felt 'crunchy' at first. Its like- is there no pride in producing a great product? Nintendo is probably the company I've had the least issue with however. Their hardware is pretty damn solid.
Was it a third party controller? Most third party controllers suck because they can't use the same parts as first party controllers. If they do they would get sued up the a**.
At the time, it was(But now the Front lit screen on the 1st gen model hasn't aged well. And not to mention no headphone slot without an adapter). I wish I still had one too. One of the 2nd gen models while i'm at it. I've had 2 Red ones die after a few years of use. And the DSlite with Yellow Tinting, I bought a model at launch and it had a Yellow tinted screen. The hinges cracked really easy as well within a few weeks of purchase. I've had my Phat since launch and it has 0 problems. My brother has a Gold Zelda DSLite and it has yellow tinting and both L and R buttons have stopped functioning. I've just never had a good experience with the DSLite and being someone who likes good sound quality as well, the DSLite is very underwhelming in that department(compared to the phat and PSP at least) ( when I used to play New Super Mario Brothers with a friend with my first lite the speakers on the phat completely overshadowed the tiny Lite sound)
