First party, came with the Xbox console. Speaking from four DSlites of experiences (mine, Dad's, sisters, Girlfriends).. noy even including my other friends- no broken hinges or L/R keys
Well, its only region locked for 'DSi-enhanced' and 'DSi-exclusive' games - a DSi will still play standard DS games from any region. ...I still think its a stupid move by Nintendo to region lock a handheld though, even though I know the reasoning behind it.
It's because legal issues. There's different copyright laws between the U.S., Japan, or any other country.
Not sure where you heard that(?) but it doesn't sound very plausable to me - if that were the case why haven't all other Nintendo handhelds been region locked? This articles explains Nintendo's 'official' reasoning behind it:- http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/nintendo-dsi-software-region-locked Apparently its due to the different regions online functionality and different age ratings, which is probably partially true, but none of the reasons mentioned has been a cause for region locking before. I think the much more likely explanation is to slow down piracy - it makes it a lot harder for pirates if you can't just sell the same fake game cartridge to all countries, instead you have to produce different versions for every region.
I like Pokemon. Emerald was fun, although if I had to do it again, I would play one of the DS versions. I really don't need a GBA port myself.
I just bought a DS Lite and I can say it feels the same with DSi (played on both of them). Lite is cheaper than DSi here so I chose the Lite.
