In my opinion in the new DS they should cut the space between the pad/buttons/speakers and the screens, it would make the DS much more sleek and portable.
...and much less playable for those of us with larger hands. From an HCI (human-computer interaction) standpoint, I really do not see much room for improvement. The only thing that I would even consider an improvement is adding additional "clicks" to the screen hinge so that the viewing angle can be adjusted to the user's likes.
Did anyone else pick up the new DS today? I went to best buy this morning and picked up the atomic purple one. If you haven't seen it, it looks like the atomic purple gameboy color they put out a few years back. I like the brighter screens, and how they made the whole unit smaller. The size of the unit is great, they made it smaller and sleaker without making the screens any smaller. My only complaint right now is how the buttons are a bit "squishey". The more rounded edges make the sholder buttons easier to press than the old model. I'm glad i waited to pick up the new model. EDIT: I'm also a bit concerned about how well the new hinges are going to stand up to multiple openings and closings. They don't seem as durible as on the older model. I'm debating on if i should go back and pickup the warranty... what do you guys think?
My God, you made my heart jump. For a minute I thought you were serious. I wanted to believe so bad that for a second I forgot about all the stories I've read today that debunk it.
In my opinion those 4 action buttons could be replaced with the screen (thus giving you the possibility to make a custom keypad) but that shoulda been done before the original launch. And yes, it could be improved, and the only downsize to people with big hands (I have big fingers) is if the screens get recuced too. Otherwise, no prob, even the small SP was easily playable.
Well, that is a matter of opinion and personal preference. I have tried to play the SP and cannot because it is too small.
No prob, honestly I can live with small buttons and space, but the great advantage of the SP was that it would fit in your pocket with no hastle (while the GBpocket was quite unconfortable) and the DS is kinda big and thus in need of a separate carrying case. In others words, my main concern is tranportation.
try lugging the psp around, that things a pain if you dont want to scratch or anything, adly if they were to place the buttons like sp, it would be difficult to use the touch screen since the games are desing to use both in unison, honeslty i dont know how they can make the thing smaller then it already is.
Wow, the DS hasn't been out that long that it really needs a redesign. Something Nintendo should consider implementing is media playback functionality. By either integrating the Play-Yan accesory or just adding the playback capability to the OS and having the DS hardware do the work, Nintendo could put even more of a dent in the PSP's sales. Thats the reason I bought a PSP over the DS. I don't own any UMD games, I just use my PSP for emulators and media playback to pass the time at work. The DS has a good selection of games that I'd want to play, but I like being able to watch videos at work and hate carrying multiple devices with me all the time. Add media functionality and I would rush out in a heartbeat and buy a DS... even faster if Nintendo made the buttons bigger on the thing.
