I've been tempted to get the dsi, if only for the screens. DS fat made Advance SP look bad DS lite made DS fat look terrible DSi? Make DS lite screen look shabby? I'm all for better image quality, so if it looks better than DS lite I'm all for it. However $170 for what is basically a DS stings a bit. I also tend to play a lot of GBA games.
Yeah, the GBA slot is a bit of a killer for me. I REALLY wish the GBA SP didnt have those clicky buttons, and I REALLY REALLY wish Nintendo didn't decide to put them on the first DS, which is what I own. Then the Lite has everything great, but the GBA games stick out. Then the DSi improves everything even more and they remove my favorite slot. I think instead I'd rather hunt down a backlit (late-model, graphite/pearlblue/pearlpink) GBA SP.
I remember getting the original GBA back in the summer of 2002. I had just saved up enough for it and Mario Kart Advance. BLISS Then the GBASP was announced next year, so I sold off my GBA and I got that sucker early in the Spring. There were no regrets. The compact size and lighting made it the ideal choice for me. Eventually, I sold that to a friend of mine after I was done with it after two years. I was taken by surprise when the original DS came out. Actually, I had known about it from the Internet, but I didn't know that it had came out that Thanksgiving holiday 2004. I was surprised to see people playing Madden 2005 WIRELESSLY in my Spanish class... but it was here to stay. I waited a bit because of the price. Then the DS lite came out... I wanted one, of course. I wanted a DS for the Nintendo games. Then Elite Beat Agents came out and solidified my decision. Here was a game that you could NOT do on any other game platform. It was darn addicting as well. When I held that stylus, I was in the ZONE. My advice: find software that only the DSi can play well and features that it executes well, too. For the record, I never relied on my DS to play GBA games, so it's of zero issue to me. I can definitely see why other people would care though.
Chalk me up as another one who thinks the lack of GBA is a dealbreaker. The new DSi features also don't interest me at all; I probably won't buy one unless a DSiWare-exclusive "Etrian Odyssey 3" comes out or something ;-)
I bought one for my little sister a couple of months ago. It's a neat little machine and the DSiware games are fun, but I don't think I'd sell my DSphat/DSlite to buy one.
i won't participate in this cash-in... it doesn't seem to me that there was any reason to get out with this dsi and i won't get one.
If you're interested because of the screens, I'd recommend getting a GB Micro. The Micro's screen makes them all weak in comparison. It has the best active-matrix performance (for non-blurry movement, brightness & contrast) of them all, plus the tiny screen size makes it look incredible. The stylus is just a gimmick to me.
I'll just sit here and pray for a us release of that. Phoenix Wright is the only good game on the DS.
That being said the AGB-101 the Advance SP with the better screen sells for more than new now... Sick
I was tempted on one, but I already got rid of my ds phat to get a ds lite with the brain age bundle. Plus while I do like my ds alot I don't play it that often so its not worth it to me. The gba slot is a bit of a bummer but if they can hack the sd slot then maybe it might be worth it. I might consider it if it drops price later on.
Honestly this appeals more to the Japanese. Two cameras and photo frames? Squarely at women. I envy the better and fractionally better screens for sure, but $170 is Xbox 360 money these days.
Guess this is another one of those threads where I stop lurking and post something. I'm another one that the GBA slot was a deal breaker. The only way the camera could be a selling point for me is if the Big "N" finds a way to connect the DSi to the Wii since the wii has a camera now too. Still though, I got a graphite AGS-101 GBASP for free when I traded a friend one of my boxed Atari Flashback 2 so I'm set for a while. DS just never scratched my old school itch like the GBA did.
Nope, I ain't getting one. I'm perfectly happy with my DS Lite and the inclusion of a couple of crappy cameras doesn't really get me interested. Maybe one day, if there's something good in the DSi shop.
This made me LOL xD Anyway, I wanted to give my gf a DS but I'm unsure which model to look for, a new DSi or and older model? Im really out of the loop on the DS I don't really know the differences of each model, also I think I saw some posts earlier mentioning some region locked features for the DS?
The price kills it for me but the bigger screen would be nice. I never use my DS for GBA BUT there are games that unlock stuff with that slot plus a rumble pack etc! I hate how Nintendo put out the DS, everyone mocked it, then everyone bought it, then they put out another one. It sucks more for me because I imported a black DS fatty and think it kicks ass aside from the shitty screen vs lite. I don't like the lites buttons and fingerprinty color. Wish I had a nice SP screen but I love the shape of the original GBA.
Seeing as I don't have a DS Lite anymore (sold it to pay rent a few months back) I'll probably pick one up real soon here (yay for tax refunds!). I'll then pick up a cheap used DS Lite later (after the fanboys trade in their almost new DS Lites for the DSi)
I`m still more than happy with my original launch DS........for as much as I use it Son`s original DS went a bit wonky but managed to shift that and added some money for his birthday for a DS-Lite] But £149 for something that is virtually identical to what I already have is a bit much. Maybe if my DS-Fat goes bang then I may splash out, but I don`t think it will Also have a micro and the screen is great so play GBA games on this only
