My DVT4 loads the XDK Launcher but I cant do anything for about 10-15 seconds. But when I have to set the clock (which is every time I plug it in since I removed the clock capacitor) the normal dash loads up no problem. Is the HDD dying? And if so is it easy to replace? I did read up about a hotswap method and IDE to SATA converters that work really well. Of course I don't want to replace the HDD if I don't have to.

I did take this picture of the HDD settings in Unleashx:

So if it is indeed dying any advice on how to possibly replace/clone the drive would be helpful.

Hdd are super simple to replace in debug and Dev kits. Basically, get a sata hdd up to 137gb, 7400rpm, pop it in, place an xdk recovery in the tray and start recovering. Easy as pie. I have a 120gb hdd in my dvt4.

What bios are you using? A hacked one or a legit debug bios?

I am using a legit dvt4 dev kit. But the guy I bought it from (Borman) said that he does not have a recovery disc for my dash. I am to understand my dash is a very early version. I don't really wish to update it but if I have to I will.

I did place a couple files on my drive so I could run unsigned code. But that was after the slow startup problem.

If it's anything like Xbox 360 kits then it reads the entire contents of where ever xshell looks for files so if you have anything in there that has lots of files it slows the whole thing down till it's done reading.

Or in my case just takes forever to actually list anything.

That dashboard is a bit slower anyway than the later dashboards. And yep, the more files, the longer it takes to load. If you backup and C and E drive, you can restore it at a later date even if you upgrade and most of the time it works. There will be a file or two that cant copy, but that's okay.

Okay thats interesting. So since there is supposedly no recovery disc for my dash is there a way I can upgrade the HDD?

Cause if I clone it I imagine there would be problems with the size of each partition if I got a bigger HDD.

You can just use any recovery disk if you use a different harddrive. You could still upgrade your dash on this harddrive to if you wanted to, I was just cautioning because there is no way to go back once it is upgraded if you dont back up the partitions.

Do you have a recovery disk I can use (the files I mean)? And I would have to get a IDE to SATA converter I would imagine. But would the recovery disc change the size of the partitions?

No, but it would only format the standard Xbox partitions. F drive and beyond requires more stuff.

Just use that 5933 link I sent you :)

Okay so I am slightly confused. I know I am a noob at this stuff. So I would burn an iso to a DVD (from the link you gave me), get a new HDD and a sata to ide converter, then connect the new HDD insert the disc and format. But then would I have a crap ton of unused space? It sounds like my partitions would end up being the same size and not utilizing the space on the HDD.

Sorry for all the questions I just have never done this before.

Yep, assuming its an iso and not a remote recovery, I cant remember what 5933 is. You could then install something like Hack Devkit Bios which would allow you to load something that can format the F drive.

Yes, the recovery will only partition C,E,X,Y and Z. F and G will need extra xbe. Like Borman says, using the hack devkit bios and dxt files will assist you in using homebrew linux apps as well as retail xbe down the road.

Read this entire article, start to finish. It will help you get everything you need.

And if you need Xbox Neighborhood but have a pc with a modern OS like Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10, try this:

It's a remote recovery, "XDKRecovery5933External.exe" to be exact, This being the WAM release.

For a new HDD I think you need an ISO recovery to burn on a disk and run on the system, Remote recoveries are run from a Windows PC and update a devkit via LAN.

Just run the exe and tell it the system you want to update and it will do it's thing.

    ^this^

The remote won't connect to a blank hdd because there isn't the debug bios to enable the process or be able to find the debug ip. Burn the iso and pop it into the kit with the new hdd installed. My initial iso failed the first time but I was able to do a remote after that.

Alright so I got the new XDK Launcher installed (with another IDE HDD I got 120gb) and it already runs WAY faster than the last one I had. Now I am having trouble ftp into it. I also need to see how it partitioned the HDD. I used filezilla before I installed the new XDK Launcher.
