I'm listening to the HL Radio Live broadcast from E3 and just thought I'd let people know that teh multiplayer mode for HL2 is going to be Counter-Strike 2 (Counter-Strike running on the Source engine pretty much).
You guys are kidding me. Matrix Online is Sega's big secret announcement? Who gives a fuck about that? The only game they could announce that is worth of a "big announcement nobody suspects" is Shenmue 3 or Phantasy Star V.
I'm going to be so broke and have absolutely no social life this year. Resident Evil, Halo 2, Suikoden 4, Tekken 5, Shellshock Nam 65, GTA: San Andreas, MSG 3, Ace combat 5, Gran Tourismo 4, Donkey Konga, Zelda, FFXII, Goldeneye 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, and a ton more that I can't even think of at the moment I'm so overwhelmed. By the time I'm done it will be E3-05. What a vicious cycle.
Your right there GaijinPunch. I couldn't care less about matrix On-Line. There probably wasn't any "BIG" announcement anyway. It was just some arse trying to stair up some sh!t. Yakumo

Yakumo wrote: i was just playing some goldeneye and decided to register a post when i read this. the nintendo DS screenshots look like they came from a psx. from what ive seen of the ique it seems to output n64 like graphics, the DS on the other hand has the coarse look, the un-anti-aliased psxness. but that could also be to the type of lcd screen they are using, maybe if you were to run it out to a t.v. it would look exactly like a n64? i know that if i fiddle with the levels on my t.v. and use an s-video connection i can get my n64 to look like a psx game... the sony psp, screen shots i have seen look great, but the games dont seem to have the texture detail that the ps2 has...ive seen better textures on highlife models than the ones used in metal gear acid. and the one 2d fighting game i saw looked terrible, maybe there was some glare on the screen when the picture was taken...but i would swear my gba outputs better looking stuff.
psp is realy kickin' ass of the ds , yes . but ds try to make a non-saturate future of the video game.... and look at the pics of mario 64x4 its really beater than the mario 64!! its depanding of the game... and the 64 ds ( :smt043 ) will be a lot sheapier than the psp ....this war will be really cool........ :smt040
sega big anoucement= a new phatasy star , and i don't think its online! on ps2 , xbox, maybe gc its not like a new console or handheld but its really good!
Sonic Team has put up a splash page at www.phantasystaruniverse.com but it goes up and down, so check it at your own risk. Not to be confused with www.phantasy-star-universe which is Sega eXtreme. IGN has the Phantasy Star Universe trailer up http://media.cube.ign.com/media/683/683211/vids_1.html# Anyone remember back to the TGS2001 show? I think that was it. They had just announced PSO about a month or two before, and there was a demo playing (which you can still download from the depths of the PSO website somewhere). Everyone thought it would be out soon. I translated a Yuki Naka interview about a month before PSO came out, for a now dead game site. I recall him saying, "we basically worked a few weeks and hashed out just enough to make that video for the TGS, and never the game again for about 6 months." Kinda sucks, but I'm sure PSU is the same. Maybe we'll see a little love at the TGS (that I can't attend).
MGS acid Metal Gear Solid Acid is not a remake or an action title per say.It is a turn based card battle gamein the same vein as Phantasy Star online epsiode 3.Plus the graphics on the actual e3 floor DS is much much better than the original press pics posted a couple of days ago, head over to Polygon mag and look at the floor pics of the DS.The display is really impressive,I was taken aback when I actually saw it in motion.Much better than the press pics and you can see Mario 64 x 4 has come on leaps and bounds the past month or so in development.Who knows what it will look like once it's finished and they add more hardware effects to the graphics. To eloborate more on what I meant....int eh original press pics,I don't think the mip mapping abilities were being fully exploited in mario 64 x 4,as with the new floor pics the textures are far far smoother.Have alook for yourselves.
That's the original press pics you are talking about which are weeks or months behind the floor stuff being shown. The floor mario demo has anti aliasing used to far better effect.Have a look for yourselfs. The same happened when they first showed mario 64 on the n64.Believe me the DS can outdo the Nintendo 64 graphically point. It can shift more polygons than the n64 could.Look at the models and stuff being shown on the floor and forget that press conference stuff. It is a far more able machine than the n64 ever was and has more potential.I really wish they would put an anolougue stick in place of the D pad though.I hate playing 3d games with a D pad,it just doesn't feel right and can be dam sore at points(Try a long Saturn Nights session with a D pad...arghhhhh!!!Thumb locking up just thinking about it.)
Indeed... that was the bane of my existence! Nights is my fav game, and the 3D pad makes it even greater... but try playing it with an arcade stick or why not the steering wheel :axe:
The PSP is certainly not PS2 level quality. At least from what I saw, it was "good PS1" quality, maybe with more light and blending effects. Metal Gear Acid was awful and ran at 20 FPS. DS has nothing to do with the N64 technically wise. I admit I was a little disappointed of using the touch screen with games. I played Metroid and didn't found the touch screen based gameplay to be good, but perhaps it needs training. Moreover, you cannot hold the console with two screens while holding the touch screen. So I think the best games to come are regular games using the Pad + ABXYRL buttons, with occasionnal finger press on the touch screen. Wario Ware DS was cool. There was also many technical demos and test, such as a Sonic game where you have to rub the screen quickly to make Sonic run.
What was the touch screen like?! Cos stuff like rubing the screen and hitting it on metroid prime sounds like its going to be harsh on a touch screen! Paulo
Just had a good decent look myself I just had a good decent look at the PSP stuff myself and I must admit it is nowhere near PS2 level quality. The effect I likened it too was playing ps1 games on a ps2 using the anti aliasing feature for the textures.Lighting effects on the machine were nice but nowhere near what Sony had put on some of the early photos.Have a look at the machine in motion and you will see what I mean.I am also underwhelmed by the quality of Film playback on the UMD format,to me it looked like Mpeg 1/2 quality.I'll still get one most probably but I do not know where people are getting this image of a ps2 on the go.It's like Kutaragi said, inbetween ps1 and ps2 quality.
The lower screen, between the directional and the buttons, is the one that is touch screen. I heard somewhere it will have a protective thing so it would not damage the screen. Plus a kind of a Palm pen will come with the DS. By the way, Wario Ware DS uses this touch screen a lot too.
CMON man Ok Let's take a look at things man....nintendo reps have stated all the show that the DS is still in the PROTOTYPE STAGE and this is not the final design or casing for the machine. So can we end all the moaning about the Ds design, they had to show something for e3 and this was maybe the only components they could get together for such a relatively large showing outside R and D labs.Exisiting Gameboy Parts basically.Read the e3 news about the web and you will note that Iwata is very stressed about componenents,he is in talks with many firms but is not having alot of luck finding a comapny that is going to be able to make two LCD screens(on a consistent basis for launch consoles) for them in such a relatively short space of time.I think we will get a Jap launch for Xmas and the rest of the world willl be q1 2005 and q2 2005. PA leak....innevatible mate, sorry to say that but it was,as soon as it was available to one greedy so and so it was gonna be on Ebay. As for the Sega announcement,I tried to tell you guys you were building your hopes up too high with no evidence to go on,but still all the Sega comms kept telling me that the company was launching anything from an atomiswave based console to relaunching the Dreamcast????? :Hangman:Too much of the old :drinkers: me thinks . Be happy,we live in a great time for gaming GSL mate. The Ds looks superb and it's nowhere near complete, the Gamecube's lineup for 2005 is superb,as is the Xbox's and to a lesser extent the Ps2. :smt023 Cheer up Mucker!!This has been an e3 to remember!!
i saw a video of gt4 in the middle of a replay. woah! there's ps2 game that look worst than this! and not first generations games.... to see the force of the psp you must view gt4 mobile in action! and its only get started!!! :smt043 ds look really cool too and no one can tell that its worst than a n64 ! check out mario 64x4 i said !! and look at mario rayer: ! if nintendo continue on this way they will really kick ass of the xbox... :smt040 and do conpetition with the ps2! this year microsoft is really disapointing.... halo 2....and that's it :smt011 metal geat 3 !!!! halo2 !! -zelda!!!!!!!! itas THE surprise of the e 3! the psp!!!! the ds !!!! gran tourismo 4! the next gta! ...... what a big e3!! :smt023
Sonic Team updated http://phantasystaruniverse.com A flash movie and a few screenshots are available. Translations of the updates here.
I know, I know. I'm currently attempting to reconcile myself with the DS after the first impression, and the fact that this IS a proto helps a little bit. I must say that the idea of a portable Animal Crossing is VERY tempting (hope they do something else with that second screen besides a stupid inventory screen), and that New Super Mario Bros looks cool. And I'm not sure if you guys have heard about that PacPix game that is being worked on, but that sounds freaking awesome. So I suppose it's worth another look, but I hope for Nintendo's sake they fix the design, because as it stands now, the PSP is far more appealing for me. And kindof along the same lines of what nintendomad was telling me with the case designs, people, of COURSE the games are going to look crappy or just run at about 10 FPS, especially ones that have just been unveiled. As a rule, most stuff shown at E3 is nowhere near finished, and the things that DO run super polished are usually videos optimized just for E3, and aren't indicitive of the current running code either. So yeah, things are going to look like shit and run horribly, but cut it some slack. If it's a long project that is at E3 for a second or even third time and still looks like ass, THEN it's time to worry (Daikatana, anyone? :smt043 )
