Sony conference had nothing new, except for Beyond. So all info "released" on the previous weeks / months wasn't leaks. Shame really. Also No new Killzone =/ But that's just me.

Exactly. It's so sad - the rest of that game looks incredible. Beautiful environments, awesome animations for the main characters, but then terrible violence. And the audience cheered after he slammed that guy into the table. :dejection: (← exactly what I was doing)

And that Watch Dogs game in the Ubisoft show had the most lively city I've ever seen in a game. Stunning tech, but it's wasted with f-words and murder.

Sickening... 90% of the games shown at these conferences are packed to the brim with action and ultraviolence. I'm respecting Nintendo more and more, and I can't wait for their conference tomorrow.

Even older games already had excuses to be outrageously violent, like Duke Nukem...

"I'M GONNA RIP YOUR NECK AND SHIT ON YOUR THROAT"

But oh well, humanity already lost sensibility on that matter a long time ago, kinda like Nineteen Eighty-Four...

EDIT: At least it has a LIFE BAR, presumably regenerated with MEDIKITS, :D :D :D

Games are approaching a more realistic imagery.

Also, shooting someone who has surrendered is sort of a big moral step in a game.
The same character uses a man's friend as a shield and then kills him when he refuses to shoot
    at him (through the friend).

    Sort of shitty.

    Good guy saves girl
-shoots guy in head begging for life
-shoots man who won't shoot his friend (being used as a shield)

Virtual violence could never go too far. Even if it was life-like, it's fake. Assuming it is any more detrimental to the gamers of our time than any action movie with a guy killing non-stop, I don't understand. If anything, the more realistic it seems the more I would see it drawing people away from wanting to ever witness/take part in such a disgusting act of violence in reality.

The guy begging for his life before being blown away adds a dark side of realism to games that you would rather not be there. You would rather the AI of these NPCs just wander aimlessly and let you kill them with no visual emotion (such as GTA), but when the game actually gets hands on and has you pummeling someone down and him begging for his life, ooooh that's too far! Yeah, because real life violence is all fun and games too, right?

Games where you are just slaughtering people endlessly with no care seems worse mentally then being shown an act of emotion and still killing him. You kill him because it's a game, it's fake, but if that guy begs for it you will still have that thought in your mind, which I think is better than not thinking about murdering virtual people at all.

It annoys me how games pride that themselves on 'realistic' visuals cave to political correctness. If I'm shooting a realistic human using a realistic firearm, in a realistic environment, under realistic context, they should react physically and emotionally as someone who has been shot. Including proper gibbing and responses like begging for life or running away.

Otherwise be sure the game is clearly fantasy or sci-fi in some way.

All the hate towards violence is totally lolworthy.

You've been blowing things up and killing stuff in games for 25+ years. Get over it already.

It's just a game, it's not as if people are playing it like they really want to kill people. Especially when the game is story heavy, when I play games like that I try to avoid killing my fellow man as much as possible and protecting my comrades and allies. Like in Crysis as a prime example. I'd rather not kill my fellow humans and would rather try to get the NPCs to realize that we need to work together to fight off the Seph.

    /shrug

ALSO: Violent video games don't make psycopaths, you are crazy if you think that's true.

Games are an open book to any possibility the creators wish to envision. That's what makes them creative and unique. And I am open to nearly all things.

It will have been done on purpose to get there game noticed when people look for smash bros related videos on YouTube. YouTube SEO i guess you could call it.

Wouldn't go so far as saying its a rip off, really you could say that about most game released in the last 10 years. Everyone borrows ideas from each other and does there own take on it. Its the Indie Games / XBLA games that innovate and try new things these days.

The problem with violence in video games is that video games have close to zero artistic value, meaning that it's hard to argue that video game violence is used in anything other than an adolescent indulgent way.

Yeah, like the trillion zombie related indie games...or the billion takes on tower defense with A TWIST. And of course the unbearable "quirky" shit that is purposely weird to try to mask the fact that the game sucks *cough* And Yet It Moves *cough*

But on topic, is it safe to call this the lamest E3 in history?

They do innovate, you know? The thing is, other companies (indie or not) later proceeded to copy the idea...
But most innovative games in the last 10 years (or more) have been indie games...

Whether you like the idea or playability of the game is another story... as they say in spanish: "Sobre gustos no hay nada escrito".

I feel that is safe to say it has been doing nothing but going downhill, ever since its prime (probably mid-to-late 90's to the end of the era of Xbox, GCN, etc.)

Although one title, Watch Dogs, did look pretty sweet if it can really be that dynamic with the environment and its AI. Though I have my doubts, I have high hopes for a new game for once... Even if that statement is in direct contradiction with itself. =]

There was a lot of blood in the previews, but that's where games are heading...

    However Tomb Raider looks amazing!

It doesn't really matter to me whether a game is innovative or not if it's really good...Gunstar Heroes isn't innovative, but it's pretty much the greatest video game ever made.

Can't really think of an indie game that did something nobody else had done before (of course, everything has been done a million times over when it comes to video games)

I don't like the over the top violence against "humans", but to be honest i think games like Battlefield and Call of Duty are worse than something like the Last of Us. Still i think it was a bit too much. What i really hate is the amount of cursing in games. It's so pathetic it makes me wonder how long it will take to Mario say "Fuck you Bowser!"

This year's E3 is embarassing. Not many games, knowing that they still need to make money on current consoles. Nintendo is another story since they are showing a new console. But when MS and Sony have to show third party games on their own conferences, just proves they don't have anything to show at all. In Sony's case it's worse, because they have tons of first party devs. What's Guerrilla doing? Studio Liverpool? MediaMolecule? Evolution? Nothing, really?! What happened to Last Guardian? The new Sly Cooper? shameful. Not even Vita had big announcements, glad i gave up on portable devices.

Also didn't liked that EA and Visceral transformed Isaac Clarke in a space marine on Dead Space 3. Dead Space was all about the horror and slow pace. Isaac was never a soldier, just someone that was trying to survive and dealing with the whole situation. Why adding a cover system to fight necromorphs?! :dejection: People at neogaf have the same opinion as i : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=476570

EDITED: Damn, even Nintendo's conference is boring...
