Arf it was always going to be the case given as it is another rebanding of EA's repeatedly failing store and it was coded by white collar slaves working long hours for low pay but meh today has not been a good day. Firstly the Battlefield 2 remade maps for Battlefield 3 launched today (they are not that appealing but meh). Anyhow in the middle of a game, as luck would have it in one of the few rounds where I'm not being repeatedly spawncamped or pwned by unlocks I did so well I went up several levels. EA then decided to disable the battle system to apply karkand without warning, in the middle of my miracle roll and everyone is kicked out of game and it didn't save my unlocks. I got back on later but back to the usual spawncamp or unlock dying fest so I haven't even got back to where I was this morning. Then there is the other problem. Origin randomly decides that my password is invalid. I do a lot of typos, but if I type carefully, it doesn't work, if I type it into notepad then copy and paste, it doesn't work. I have no notifications to say my password has been changed (because it hasnt). I do the next best thing and go through the reset. I'm sent an email validation thing and told to click a link, the link doesnt work. I manually copy and paste the code into origin, it gets to the next step where I can change the password, password changed - try to log in, the password once again doesnt work. I repeat the entire process several times and the verification server either cannot be contacted, the email verficiation code is sent blanked or I try an older code which isnt blank and told it has expired. If I retry logging in with my last few passwords, even the one confirmed as changed still no joy. At least with Steam whether you love it or loathe it you can still play your games offline without being forced into any of this sort of locked out bullshit.
I hate how they called this piece of crap Origin. To me Origin will always be the company that brought us Wing Commander, Ultima Underworld etc.
Welcome to the future of gaming. Don't you love having to go through all that bullshit just to play a game you bought and legally own?
It gets worse - EA/Origin.com websites accept the password but it is just the application which is the gatekeeper to my games, which doesn't... they both use the same credentials so WTF -_-
I am surprised that even Desura works 10000 times better than Origin, and they don't have the resources that EA has. One of the things that make me frown is that they detect my IP and location, and because I live in a country that speaks spanish, I am instantly charged in euros! Like if all the people who speak spanish MUST live in Spain, right EA? Oh yeah, and be careful about complaining or asking for support in their forums, they can take your games away: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/ea-bans/ EDIT: oh ok I tried to login and the application said that the network can't be reached. They are probably in maintenance. An offline mode could be very handy.
++ origin is a pile of shit it can go die for all i care... whats worst is that bf3 dosnt even run properly on my pc just causes it to bsod...... :'(
Games like World of Warcraft have the good graces to give you 15 mins short notice in game and/or a news bulletin when you are logging in though. Also an IRL friend in the same town but a different ISP is having NP today EDIT: Now it has afficted my RL mate too.
Horrendously clunky. Not sure if BF3 loads anything like the beta but that took the piss to get in game. No doubt crap console port 2011 edition isn't any better since the beta either.
I concur with your OP Title. In a semi related note I had a problem with a Cyber Monday purchase from EA Origin. Still not resolved, I'm updating the link as the battle progresses.
So since I have no need for an Origin/EA account and I don't particuarly want EA having anything to do with my details (email or anything) I looked into closing my account. Here's two methods. Talk to a Game Advisor By providing a few details about your product, you'll help us connect you with the Game Advisor who can most effectively provide the support you need. 1 What product is your question about? Keep it short and specific. You can enter a game title (Battlefield 3, Sims 3, etc.) or a franchise (Battlefield, Sims, Pogo etc.) Origin× 2 Select a contact option Please select a contact option and an EA Advisor will be available to assist you Leave your number and an EA Advisor will call you. Current wait times are between 6-10 minutes. Call Me Sorry, there are no advisors available at this time. Please try again later. Live Chat That's right. No easy method to cancel your account, instead you have to talk to an "advisor" who will try to keep me there or leave them my number. Fat chance of that happening.
^not sure if doing warez talk will do well for you. But I do agree. Yeah, Origin is just a reskinned Steam (both unreliable) Steam is a *little better*, but not a whole deal. I HATE EA as well, they have no idea how to remake a classic Need for Speed, their service sucks, and you can never get a solution! I seem to have this theory that "companies that make more money every month get worse by the month." I would love to create a hate page on Facebook but last time I did that to a corporation I nearly got thrown in jail/sued... Pretty much in summary, fuck you EA!
Origin is no where near as good as Steam. Its a reskin of EA download manager with a couple of new social features.
Which is why physical media isn't going anywhere. no matter how much EA and other us comapanies push it Physical media is here to stay
I agree. As far as I'm concerned, you never own any digital media off of PSN/XBLA/Steam etc; you just own the license to use it. Why would I spend money on a digital copy of something when I can own a physical copy, with a case, cover, manual, and the game itself?
