That's fine. But, just because something is mainstream doesn't mean it isn't good. There are people in every hobby, from music to movies to video games who would think having an elitist attitude makes them feel special about their hobby. But those are the people who are really the most shallow. They forget why they like their hobby to begin with, because it was fun. Not to look cool, feel special for knowing some obscure band, movie, or game, or even trying to impress people with their materialistic gains. So, I guess for the main point: even if EA makes and is recognized as an extremely pop. gaming company, many games they make such as the Need For Speed Underground series, are still better than most other racers out there in that category. And for SSX; the feeling of snowboarding down a hill, ambient music in the background, and nothing but you and the brilliant purple and sapphire hues on the horizons night sky must suck because it is mainstream? Umm, ok.
Well i like burn out 3 it is fun but it was just published by them, and after 4 or five hours your done with it.
That sounds similar to a lot of the noises concerning Sony and the PS2 (or even the PSX) I hear on here sometimes.... :lol True, the whole "mainstream sucks by definition" attitude is extremely shallow, but then there's the entirely different issue of the mainstream being flooded with extremely low-quality titles to cater exclusively to the lowest common intellectual denominator, the most casual of gamers. That's what I think a lot of people here are taking offense at - that most of us who have been interested in the industry since it's early days and now demand more from the developers are being snubbed by publishers in favor of the casual newcomers lured by flashy colors and the ability to have an updated team roster of the New England Patriots year after year after year.
Then maybe you're not getting me I'm not saying it sucks BECAUSE it's mainstream, it sucks AND it's mainstream. I play games for fun, it's the 1 and only reason I ever do, but I don't play games for prolonged amounts of time which I don't like. Maybe I have an elitist attitude, but that doesan't exclude mainstream stuff. My "elite" are games I enjoy, anything else I naturally consider inferior thus not worthy or elite, it's not like I'm saying EA have never made a good game in their past, but none of their current stuff is up to scratch- it's all sub par shit.
If EA took half of its series, and made it for the hardcore gamer, i think it would be better than if they make it for the mainstream. I think thats what Legit is getting at.
i was refering to the first, since i never played the 3rd one. and i say new games EA made, and not just old series that EA publish (burnout 3 is insanely fun, but it wasn't made by EA and it's not something new)
hehe, love that game too! pretty hard to find though (well, here anyway) the only two times i saw it was 7 years ago, when my friend rented it for a week, and 3 years later fo sale at 5 bucks, new. i jumped on it. never saw it ever since.
