It's just hellish to think of such a hard collection to establish being broken up, however sometimes when the wolf is at the door you need to just go for it. The only concern I'd have is that the seller was doing ok.

That said, it's a bit a personal situation and if it's all up for sale, it's the sellers choice.

Finding a buyer with that kind of capital would be an achievement. A site collaboration to save the collection is hardly viable IMO for one. Shame!

It is far too much work and the eBay fees would be hellish for this guy to split it up and sell individual items I guess. He'd have to open his own Postal Branch for a few months!

Well this is a forum for dev/rare/unreleased stuff, so these things are to be expected. On eBay though I didn't even think to expect it, especially since his buy/sell history had no indiciation of video game purchases.

*nods* I'd have to agree - I was really typing in jest when I suggested that. It would be nice to keep that collection intact, but I just can't see it working with a group of folks spread out so widely across the globe. The only way I could see for a large group effort to work would be along the lines of somebody setting up a charitable status organisation that would 'own' the goodies, with individuals contributing to that organisation. Having been loosely involved in railway preservation in my dark, distant past, I can tell you there's a lot of hassle/work involved in that kind of thing. Maybe an individual/small group of individuals (with deep wallets) from this site might be able to mount a purchase, but personally, I don't have anything like that kind of cash spare (mores the pity)...

    Quote from the seller:

UPDATE 5/22/07: The Biggest PlayStation auction has been pulled from ebay. Thus begins the process of separating everything and selling individually. If you wanted a certain item listed on ebay, please email us. Depending on the responses, you may not get a reply, but I will do my best to list it.

Hey, port187 - you might want to edit your post to make it clear that you're just reporting the message from the playstation museum news web page - at first glance, it kinda looks like you're the one holding the auction... ;-)

That said, I wonder why the auction got pulled?

Presumably due to the nature of the auction itself. I.e. Selling off items such as development material. I'm also wondering whether eBay are dubious about the authenticity of such a listing, whether in fact they are concerned about the implications of A) scam B) the final listing fee and finally C) non payment, plus the possibility of a listing like that attracting idiots of the Nigerian-Auction-stylee. Scrub that, when have eBay ever given a damn about anyone but themselves?

More simply, I guess Sony contacted eBay and informed them to pull it for copyright reasons. All the dev stuff.

Nice to see it has it's original box and it sounds like it has everything MS originally provided other than software. But as you say £200 (ouch!) and £50 postage.... where too, I only live in the UK, not Siberia?
