I can't seem to find any mention of a price increase either. People slate EBay and I do feel some healthy competition wouldn't go a miss at all but it's hard to completely dismiss it becuase without it, I would be missing some key items within my collection. Maybe these items would have found their way into my hands via other means but the sheer size of EBay and volume of auctions that pass through everyday make it the easiest way for people to sell things without too much hassle. Also, conventional auction houses have been and still do, charge much higher percentages for their services and you'd never have the buying scope using them either. You can't always expect everything for free!
Isnt the paypal fee 5%? But either way - thats pretty much what its always been. Not an "increase to 14%" - which is why I wanted a link for clarification.
You're right mate. Basically everything you see in my XBOX collection is from eBay. Apart from the kits You'll also get stupid sellers any where, Australia as an eBay owned site called "gumtree". You can list for free but you must meet in person, there's no paypal or fees etc. It just takes a bit of shopping around to get what's best and convenient for you. eBay is good for me to sell on as I've sold 99% of everything I've listed as well. I wish Yahoo! would start up an auction site for the west as well, doubt that will ever happen.
Oh didn't know that. It's not the best, I mean a lot of "sellers" are hopeless when it comes to questions... Yet some can be helpful, guess it's wide spread on both gumtree and eBay.
I had been rip-off/scam and bending rules at lease eight times by Sellers and buyers in last six years. PayPal had no choice but pay awful alot of money to me and they have to deal with the fraudster. I guess Paypal and Ebay higher up the fees at this point.
Yeah it is shocking, I sold my Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone for £420 two years ago and I have to pay £61.40 for Ebay fees alone. It is stupid ! I want to save every penny for my University fees which already costing me £5600 ! Now Ebays fees gone up by percentage.
EBay is a business, businesses are in business to make money. They are offering a service, you used that service to sell your phone and for that you have to pay the fee. No one forced you to use EBay to sell your phone yet you used it anyway; most likely because you know EBay is your best option. So, either don't use EBay at all OR use EBay and accept the fees they charge (said fees are clearly stated on the site BEFORE you list anything), but don't use EBay then moan about the fact they charged you to do so... that's just stupid!
Whoa Calm down Kiff, I'm ebay user since 2009, so I know the rules. No need to tell me about how business works. I'm a furniture maker and joiner and selling furniture stuff in my own time and now doing the Business studies in uni aswell. All I'm saying is that Ebay fees is way to high now and plus, their support service are no good either ! I don't overprice my furniture stuff and slack on extra fees when I felt like it. I keep my price fair. That all. Edit Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone is brand new and unopened, it is unwanted gift item so that why I sold it.
Anyone have a source for these new fees? I already have an eBay store & sell regularly so the 4% is actually great for me (but sucks for everyone else) I just want to read this for myself.
I have thought about selling on ebay many times but, I can't get past the fact they charge a percentage on everything. These percentages are making items on ebay more expensive than items on other websites.
It's either that or another site that most likely not many people use. Even though eBay's customer service is horrible and I've barely won any disputes, I still rather use eBay then go to a pawn shop and get $10 for $100 item and loose $14 that eBay take. Sure eBay has their share of nutjobs...
eBay plays the stores and the auctions against themselves. Back when I was selling there was only auctions, then they rolled out the stores and I think the cheapest option was $0.01. A year later they said they were losing their core focus as an auction site and to counter that they were going to raise their store fees to $0.05. Obviously bullshit, their plan was to get people to use stores then jack the price up later, which is where I was at. Now it looks like they've changed positions once again and they want people to use stores. Next they will increase the fees on stores. I've always wondered at what price eBay will start to lose business. It seems the only way they can get additional funds is through fee increases and as a business plan that will have to end someday. People aren't going to sell with 20% fees. They've tried quite a lot of new things (remember ProStores? Buy.com?) that were disasters and Sellers had to pay for it. I remember doing nothing differently, listing the same way with the same features, and having to pay more for it. You'd think with fee increases they'd do something to increase sales but that generally isn't the case. In the end they are a corporation and need to show growth every year so it looks like they are betting on subscription services as a way to increase steady cashflows.
