    (very) oversimplified explanation:

To write to the chip, you set 1 pin high to set the chip to write mode (if that pin is low, its in read mode) you then put data on the data pins and that data is programmed into the chip. The pins you write data on are the same as the ones you read on. The only thing making it read or write is setting the write enable pin.

Now, some chips have different pinouts. jackhead attempted to dump the chip using the wrong chip type, so when the programmer was setting the read pins, it actually set the write one and overwrote some data when it thought it was reading.

This isnt all completely technically accurate, but it gives you the general idea.

Great to see the game working again!

Could you not use an action replay code or similar for infinite health using the codes from the retail game or finding your own code?

Maxim talks back to the catfish after the battle. Don't really know what they're saying, but I think Maxim asks "Really?" and the catsfish confirms it.

The attachment you just posted is an empty zip file. Open the log file, it it blank? If not, try the attachment again in a new post.

Yes, in the other thread he said that the game crashed in the next location after the Catfish battle.

Given that there's multiple glitched textboxes, and it's known that's where the game crashed before the EPROMS were corrupt, I think it's safe to say that you've reached the point where parts of the game are simply unfinished. You'll probably need to use the debug mode from now on to try to skip ahead and visit different locations.

When you're at the exact same spot with the same textbox open as you posted in the last screenshot, enter Pro Action Replay code 80A8AA60 and try to continue. If that doesn't work, remove the code, reload again and use 80A8AA6B instead.

The codes are an attempt at a quick fix, it might not work.

If it lets you continue, turn the code off/remove it once you get past the textboxes in that event sequence.

Why don't you have his rom yet? You're like fixing everything for him.

Id have to agree, JLukas is doing all the work - it would no doubt be easier if he was just fixing it himself.

It's okay, I'm doing my best using the log files and screenshots he has posted.

    trevormacro,

Reload the game and when you get to the problem spot try this:

    80A8AA4C
    80A8AB14
    80A8ACD3

I'm guessing the problem with the textbox crash is the game trying to read lines of text that weren't added yet, and instead grabs random data that it has trouble processing. Or maybe it's in the event scripting, not sure.

I guess for now just explore with debug mode (which you said is working) and look if further have errors too or is crashing (to see if its really the end of proto)

What also is possible is because this proto is used in megazines is that Taizo made an error appear at some point so they are limited on what they can preview to people and not spoil too much and too far

    This is random guessing though.

Are there other protos on the net that just simply crash after some point rather than just ending?

Sinrevi might have some advice if it's possible to skip this event in the cave using the debug mode and move on to the next area.

When you're walking around, if you hold B button and move the d-pad, does it let you dash/run and walk through walls? It also works the same on the overworld map. Maybe you can skip to the next town or dungeon.

Well, you can go further, but there's one main thing you're missing now: Tia (the girl) which is part of the main quest and she is suppose to go with you from that point where it glitched up.

Also sweet, beta zep. Can you go underwater too?
