Neat! It's nice to see a programmer that is actually in a case. Don't the ROMs need more voltage (25 V) to write?

 

Flash ROMs need less voltage than EPROMs. Maybe EPROMs require I think 12V, some older ones might need more. But that doesn't mean the power supply on the programmer needs that voltage, I think they can have some sort of charge pump.

 

my Top853 is USB powered and writes via USB, shop around on ebay, if you don't need it ASAP you can find them really affordable, double check the rom list on the sellers auction but I'm pretty sure they are all the same/clones of each other. I just use the Topwin6 software for flashing, the main support you generally need for NES is 27C256 (32kb roms), 27C010 (128kb), and 27C020 (256kb)

 

Calling it 'somewhat identical' is kinda of silly considering SMB2 US was a conversion of doki doki

 

I like Adventure Island IV, it caught my attention because it's apparently the last game to come out for the Famicom, but it's basic, fairly difficult, and pretty fun.

 

I know, but the Scandinavian version can only be considered a collectible rather than an alternative to the JPN version because it's lacking the special soundchip - and that game has some SOUND.

 

Mr Gimmick's US prototype was found, dumped, and released. You can buy it from RetroZone, the makers of the PowerPAK. The game is a good one and the US prototype sounds great, afterall it is Sunsoft.

TLROM and TLSROM are wired differently. A game intended for one will not work on the other properly at all.

 

I thought about buying that, as the price is reasonable and the place has a good wrap. I'm looking for more of a project to do while I'm at a university during some dull weekdays, and as much as I love video games, I get a pretty big kick out of putting them together.

Too bad they are wired differently! It would make things a lot simpler if they were interchangeable.

Definitely! Just having a tangible, finished project is the best imo. Powerpak is something I would buy in a heartbeat, if I didn't like building stuff so much :wink-new:

That would be awesome if you posted them; it's always nice to see someone's interpretation of how certain labels go.

What do you use for your printing solution? I don't know where you are located, but the print shop nearby can do a high quality full page color 8/2 by 11 for $.60 a pop, and that can probably fit at least four labels. Either that or a cheap laser printer on craigslist would probably do it, right?

 

Yes, you do good work. Is it the paper, or the printer that's bugging you? I just picked up a great, cheap printer for the cover biz.

Get a great printer, and a decent paper cutter. A printer that can cut is just plain not cost effective.

 

True. It's a shame that the labels have rounded edges, as then nothing special would be needed. What paper cutter do you use, GrindheadJim?

As far as the curved edges go, I don't know of a way to get around that except a good pair of scissors, unless you want to spend a kagillion on a programmable laser cutter.
