FF8 wasn't bad at all. I like it more than I liked FF7.
9 and 10 were blah, but not VERY bad (though being a girly sport-star jock and a JpopIzed version of the prelude were quite horrible). 10 is visually awesome in several spots.
    11 just... feels wrong.

I do have a seriously huge craving to play FF3/VI but my Snes has some horrible interference and I don't want to play from a Rom.

Wow, and I thought I was the only one on the planet with that opinion :drinkers:

    Hell, YEAH!
    FFV was GREAT, Imo.

BTW, Antipasta and Xerdopwerko, You may be the only two on the planet with that opinion. FF8 was boring to me. All you need to use are the summons to kill everything, and it took me a long time since the junction system was boring, long, and tedious beyond all belief, imo.

Whatever, I liked the atmosphere much better, plus the character didn't look as horrible. And imho, there's more than using GF's for everything (though they go a long way).

I enjoyed FFVII the most out of any 3D ff, and FFVI the most out of all the 2D FF's. FFVIII I always felt had great potential, but the plot got stale and filled with holes near the end. Also, FFVIII I used almost nothing but the summons, while as in VII I almost never did (it might of had something to do with the boost ability in VIII which I could get 210-230 on a regular basis with, only maxed out a few times though).

    I love 8. I'd say it's my favorite.

Each fight for me in FF8 was just a test of how many times I could use the same Summon over and over, before I turn it off. And leveling up almost does jack shit, if that much. I did manage to get all the summons via the most annoying sidequest, ever. I am proud that I killed Omega weapon, though!:D

Damn, that IS optimistic! And also incorrect I fear.

    I disagree completely.

I saw MANY great games ignored by the public this generation AND last generation, for no other reason than visuals.

Hell, if you want proof, look at C:SOTN, Konami USA were reluctant to release it AT ALL in the states because it was 2D. And this was like nearly a decade ago.

Not to mention that Sony point blank refuses to allow niche and 2D games released in the West on its PS2. Look at Metal Slug 3, did we ever get a USA/UK release? They didn't want it to come out, so I bought the JPN import.

Do you honestly think that either the unwashed masses, or the corporations are going to want to release niche and simple games? Never going to happen.
Not in any great numbers at least.

Metal Slug 3 got a PAL release, yes. Just like the Strikers 1945 compilation, Hyper SF2, that KoF pack, and now apparently Sengoku Blaede and Gunbird as well :D

I suppose I'd have to say that FF7 is my favorite, just because it got me into the series. I've played every one but 3 (not translated). I liked 7 infinitely more than 8, primarily just because in 7 you have a real villian (Sephiroth) but in 8 you just have some wackball sorceress who you never even really see until the end (Ultimecia) and she isn't really a presence throughout the game.

I liked 8 too! It took me 2 years to finish the bastard (I ended up starting again because I got stuck in a position where I was in stoopid Lunatic Pandora where all my guys were too shitty a level and I didn't have any older saves! AAARRRRGHGJB!), but at least I got my £45 worth out of it!

I liked V more than VI as well, but I stopped playing it for a few years and forgot what I was supposed to be doing, then my saves disappeared after the big ROM changeover of '04. I blame BitTorrent... even though it was my fault...

Yeah, and FF9 had a "at-the-last-minute" boss as well. So did 10 and maybe 4, if I recall.

metal slug 3 wasn't released in the US, true. However, they understood their errors, and metal slug 4 and 5 is comming up. And what about those Kof compliations ? apart of 94-rebout, everything was rleased here.

It took it's time, but I guess I stand corrected.
It still doesn't change my argument that companies are reluctant to go with games that are either obscure, niche or lack eye candy.

Im a pessimist, and I fear that companies in future will try to put a stop to such games. hell, M$ demanded that some retro compilation have a warning at the start, claiming that the Xbox can actually create better graphics than those in the games.

What does that tell you, of their attitude and their opinions on what the public think?

No, but that does not mean that it wasn't released in the US.
