Apparently SCEA understood they stupid move of not releasing the 3rd game, and now 4 and 5 will be released in one single disc for the PS2.
WanganRunner, Mr. Casual You get to see the final sorceress from the very beginning of the game. And no, I'm not talking about Edea. I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise... but let's check it out. Ultimecia has wings AND summons Griever. Who else has wings (in some way), and Griever? Yup. That person will grow up to be Ultimecia.
Yes, but it highlights Sony's blinkered ways. If anything, you must praise M$ for asking people not to put region protection in their games. Also, the Xbox is one of the few consoles with old fashioned games on it, like those by SNK. Japanese corporations make me sick sometimes with their xenophobic attitudes. My point is, we're talking about the PS3 and its amazing graphics. Well I am 100% certain that Sony will AGAIN do what they tried to do with SOTN and what they DID do with MS3. Seriously chaps, we complain about there not being another 2D console Castlevania, the simple reason is Sony wouldn't want Konami to release such a thing. You want another example? Katamarii Damacy never made it to Europe. They said because of "technical problems". Yeah right, more like Sony Europe didn't like it's wacky styling. They have said on record, they like to limit their quirky games releases. Which is why Working Designs has been sitting on a finished translation of Goemon for so long. Sony think it's too quirky to be released, and so don't want it coming out. I could probably list more evidence showing how Sony restricts creative freedom in favour of more mainstream visuals, but if I haven't convinced you by now, I never will. I personally hope they use all this power to make me some abstract games. Like an impressionist painting. Or something by Anthony Green (good lord, THAT would make a great game). Photo realism only straightjackets creativity, especially when Sony are at the helm.
Well, I took my time beating this game, since I didnt really like it, it was long, and hard for me, too. Who grows up to be Ultimecia, and how long does it take to reach that spot where you see the young her? I *think* I know, and it takes forever to get there. About all I remember about her is that she took over peoples bodies and had a buncha forms. And a weird GF. Besides...she was a girl!!!
FF8 SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER AHEAD! All details indicate that Rinoa is Ultimecia, Mr. Casual. Also, all details indicate that Laguna is Squall's father. Things aren't "told", they're shown through details. That's what I liked so much about the game.
Rinoa is Ultimecia? Laguna is Squall's father? What details support those? I beat the game back when it first came out and I don't remember anything like that. Also, on the original subject of the ff7 tech demo, here is a comparison of what cloud looks like on ps1/ps2/ps3: http://img188.echo.cx/img188/3664/ff7sysquality25kh.jpg
ONCE AGAIN, SPOILER ALERT! Fabrizio For example - When the Moombas lick Squall's wound and taste his blood (when he is prisoner by Galbadia), they yell "Laguna! Laguna!". They recognise the "taste" from the past. It's strongly hinted at in other sections, most especially that girl who goes to see Squall in the hospital in the beginning and Laguna in the end... Ellone, was it? It's hinted many other times. I don't recall all of them but I did play the hell out of the game when it came out. Rinoa is Ultimecia 1) She is a sorceress 2) Ultimecia summons Griever. Rinoa received "Griever" (the ring) from Squall 3) Ultimecia has wings like those Rinoa has in her final limit break. 4) The beginning text (from the opening movie) that repeats itself when Rinoa comes back from the coma sort of hints at it. 5) Perhaps (now this is a VERY far fetched theory...) when Rinoa is in a coma, the time compression makes the "sorceress" part of her soul go to the future and "form" Ultimecia. Thus, Rinoa wakes up from the coma because Ultimecia is defeated in the future - and she can be defeated both because of the final battle and because of Rinoa and Squall's love and will. And stuff.
I'd rather play a game with a strightforward plot, since this one has so many loopholes, and speculation. FF7 was weird enough for me. That game never truly tells the people what Jenova is. About all I remember is that some guy called her a calamity from the skies. I know its mere speculation, but the text was in the game! SOURCE
Alien Workshop: Err...which pc version? The one with or without the huge black holes (which looked like they were supposed to represent mouths) on every characters face? If its the one with them, i'd suggest re-playing it on the psx (so the characters don't all look like idiots, and you can take them all seriously).
I have no idea what you are talking about. It looked almost the same to me, as I have seen the PSX version in motion.
I heard that the PC version of FF7 calls Aeris "Aerith", and the PSX version calls her "Aeris". Or is it the other way around?
PSX version calls her Aeris (due to a mis-translation), don't remember what the PC version calls her (although I personaly prefer Aeris over aerith, partialy due to how saying "Aerith" makes the person saying it sound like they have a lisp).
this was a VERY nice real-time PS3 rendition of the original FFVII prerendered CG intro from PS1. was it exactly the same as the original prerendered CG? no, it was somewhat different. the characters (Areith and Cloud) were totally re-modeled to near Advent Children levels of complexity (not quite on par with AC but thats what it reminds you of).... the city environment and vehicles were somewhat changed from the original CG. there is both more and less detail. the background has more detail, the vehicles (cars and train) have less detail. compare the two here original PS1 FFVII CG intro made in 1996 or 1997 http://anubis.bluelaguna.net/fmvs/ff7/1/Opening.avi realtime FFVII technical demo for PS3 http://downloads.ffshrine.org/trailers/ffvii-ps3-hires-trailer.mov overall, the realtime PS3 version is much more impressive, dispite the slightly less detail in the vehicles, there is more detail in the enviroments, character models and the whole thing runs at 60fps, whereas the original PS1 CG plays back at *less* than 30fps.
The second was already linked to. Without the "Butt-copier" disaster. WTF?! BTW, your first link doesnt work.
yeah I just realized the link to the original PS1 version was dead, so I replaced it with a working one.
PS1 videos are in 15fps (or, I believe, 12.5fps for PAL), Through these videos, you'll be able to see 25fps or 30fps, usually 30fps. DivX and stuff like that aren't ever encoded in 50 or 60fps, I'm not sure if they can be. the original japanese name for Aeris is Aerith, I believe it was changed through how people pronounced her name. The resolution of the pc game is, I believe, very slightly lower than the Playstation version, being 320x240, it also can be 640x480, which isn't bad, background textures look poor, though. Also the music is all midi format, even with the yamaha DX-50 or DX-70, the sounds weren't the same as (or as good as) the playstation's ones.
I noticed the sound quality of the pc version when I saw AWS playing it. It went slower than the PSX version.
