quite nice. thanks for sharing the pics, especially since jmratkos's images are all 404'd. i hope i didn't forget to save those...
Even if its a prealpha, its still a US prealpha, so I doubt all that much would be different when compared to the Japanese release
i think he stated somewhere else that it is in preeliminary translation too, so it might contain interesting differences
there were some tweaks to the game mechanics in the us version. probably the easiest one would be to check how much jp it cots to learn the dancer's movement ability "fly." in the japanese version it took some absurdly high amount, like 2000 jp. in the us version it was tooled down to a more reasonable number.
This disk was marked alpha and not pre-alpha so either I got it confused with another disk back then or there are two of these floating around in my house.
i think it was 5000 you don't start with it. it might take a few hours to get it. why are you asking? Really interesting! you're a lucky man
I was asking because I really don't want to play this for hours. I put it up on ebay and if I get a buyer I can have him post here with any in depth findings.
i saw it on ebay and i can't still believe it! for such a price you should at least finish the game and post the differences!
goddamn. i'd kill for that alpha, but i can't afford two thousand dollar games on a qa salary. if it doesn't sell, there are some fan-made utilities that allow you to directly alter the party and characters in the game. i could just drop a dancer in the party and send a save file you could use via dexdrive or epsxe; you'd be able to check the job point values in ten seconds instead of ten hours. how's that?
allright. sorry for the delay; been a long week. if you can give me an email address here or in pm, i'll try and have the file sent by tomorrow evening. i asked some other fft fans to make sure i'm not missing any differences, and it's a good thing because i forgot one of the optional treasures lets you play a hidden minigame that was removed from the us version. man, if you have all the japanese version differences but in english text, that is truly one hell of a collector's piece.
yeah. i read that too. but it looks like ingame text is all english, which would make this disc pretty damned unique if it had translated text but still retained the japanese version differences.
Just noticed a date on this disc. 9/26/97 It was written in red on the inner ring. This puts it a few days before the date belonging to author of the strategy guide. So I would expect it to be very close but who knows.
