Awesome, that was my favorite installment as well! It's a shame that there's no way to have all of the exclusive characters in one game.

Looks cool. I think the original DC game is the best in the series, but SCII is good as well. I have the Gamecube version, and I think that's probably the best version, if for no other reason than Link. I might consider getting this, though. It'd be cool if they'd make a Wii U version with Link.

Another case where the game being in "HD" means just running it at a higher res (the SD footage in the trailer looked like ass too, like it was taken from a composite signal or maybe even worse than that, way to mislead buyers)...if this doesn't have Edge Master mode like 1 didn't, then I'll probably give it a pass.

The original ran in a 4:3 720p mode anyway on the Xbox.

I've never ever been excited for "HD" versions of games at all. Even when Daytona got released on PSN and XBLA, I wasn't all over it, sure I bought it but eh.

What? That was pretty much the only one worth getting excited over, since was the only arcade perfect Daytona port.

The Model 2 Emulator could do exactly the same...

I certainly agree. The comparison footage was awful. It definitely looked like they are trying to compare Composite Video versus HDMI and running in a higher resolution as *HD*. But that seems to be a trend, they don't actually spend time upgrading textures or models, just up the resolution and make it widescreen maybe. The main draw here I think is that it has online play.

I can think of two HD releases that ended up being the definitive version of their respective originals; Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (admittedly, not merely an HD port, also rebalanced) and the remake of N64's Perfect Dark for Xbox 360 (new character models and all-new HD textures for everything).

Definitive versions don't always become the favoured among their player base though. STHD Remix is a worthy expample of this. The biggest achievement this HD release did was evoking interest back to its predecessor as the best version for competitive play. The original CPSII ST.

I've been out of the loop for fighters of late, but I thought HDR was generally considered the go-to for SFII in tournaments? Last I heard they eventually banned Akuma due to some unblockable Super setups, but otherwise it was extremely well balanced.

It has it's ups and downs - It didn't catch on in Japan which is where ST is still played alot.

It did however bring more interest to the US Super Turbo scene however. I enjoy HDR but a lot of people don't...

granted, I prefer it over SF4 - dramatically...but SF4 is what's most popular (because a. it's easier to pick up, leading to b. having more players which leads to c. causing the well known FG players to play it which again leads to point b. in a cycle)

Nope. The last 2 Evolution Fighting game Championships (2012/2013) had the original Super Turbo (2X) as a pretty hyped tournament gathering with players across Europe, Japan and US East and West Coast players competing. Worldwide it's pretty unanimous that ST is still the definitive version to play among the community. All HDR's release end up doing is reignite the ST scene once again. There are still HDR players out there to be sure, but the majority have stayed or gone back playing ST.

It didn't catch on in Japan because the game wasn't officially released in that territory. Capcom was well aware the a US influenced (Udon/Backbone) production of the game wouldn't appeal to the player base out there especially considering 2X (ST in Japan) is still relevant out there.

Yeah, pro players simply didn't gravitate to the significant changes that went into HDR. Even during Capcom's worldwide SF 25th anniversary tournament where HDR was in the lineup, the game was ultimately played in its Classic mode setting.

MGS : HD Collection was great too, MGS3 ran at 60fps for the most part whereas the PS2 version was 30fps

I prefer 2 because it brings back the multiple weapons from Soul Edge.

But it had that weird Karoke mode (an easy few gamerscore points, but still, just so weird)

I dunno, really the only thing that excited me about SCII were the exclusive characters, except for Heihachi. No Spawn, and I won't really care one way or the other.

I'm not sure if they count as HD releases, but the RE 1-3 releases on the GC were pretty good, and DOA Ultimate, though it only looks marginally better than the DC version.
