Can anyone recommend some free software that can copy FLV files from the net to my harddrive? My 2 year old loves the Thomas the Tank Engine music videos and already has a DVD full of them. I noticed that the official site ( http://www.thomasandfriends.com/uk/videos.asp ) has loads more that he doesn't. Unfortunately I made the mistake of showing him and now he's always coming over asking to watch them . So the idea is to basically make another DVD for him. Yakumo
i downloaded "Download Helper" for Firefox and i can get anything from Youtube which i believe uses flash(?). it's really useful. especially for getting videos for presentations and what not.
Safari has an option to view what the page is loading, so if an actual FLV is being loaded (and not actual streaming), then you can just nab it from there.
I use the same addon as graciano. It's pretty easy and comfortable to use as its already built in Firefox once you downloaded it. If you want nicovideo stuff though grabbing videos needs slightly more effort, but using nicodav it's still quite easy.
i went to the thomas website and tried to download some of the videos with download helper and was unsuccessful. maybe i'm just not thinking clearly because i haven't slept in the last 24hrs...
I tried too but with no luck. It does work on other sites including mine. Bit pointless on my site though since I give a download link anyway :icon_bigg So far nothing can get the videos from that Thomas site. I've tried all suggestions in this thread as well as a few different software packages such as Orbit. Looks like I'll have to put my PC n to low resolution (To make the flash video window appear bigger) then record the video with the video camera. The end result will be very good but it's just a lot of messing about setting it all up then having to dub the stereo audio on afterwards :banghead: Yakumo
i don't know if these are the ones you're looking for, but at least you can download them... http://www.livevideo.com/media/tag/thomas-the-train.aspx http://sqooltools.com/edvideos/thomasengine/index.html
two of the songs in the first link he hasn't seen so I'll add them to his new DVD. Who would have thought it would be so hard to download flash video?
You may want to try Sothink. They have a pretty good free program called flash catcher. The plug-in for IE isn't that great but the one for firefox has worked on everything I have tried it for.
I use flashgot, and then go to a youtube video and select "Flashgot media" and I instantly download it. As for free flv to any other format software, I used Freez. But whats pissing me off, it has so many free uses before you have to pay for it. So after using it a lot it started asking for money, and since I really wanted to use it more, I paid for it, and then it refuses to work anyway! Im not sure if something went wrong or what, I might reinstall it.
a last resort would be an application called fraps that is basically a screen capture software. you can just set and area of your screen, press record and play the vid. *poof* you now have an avi of the captured area. i used this to capture in-game footage from some PC games few times. the app isn't free i think but should be functional as a trial version too edit: here's a link: http://www.fraps.com/
if there from youtube or any other site like that you can use mediaconverter.org it converts media files and then you can download them! or your best bet is install real player downloader it downloads all videos i through at it you just move your mouse over the video then click the lil download bar the appears over it!
If you decide to do it the easy way... http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/search.aspx?title=thomas+the+tank+engine&scategory=title Good places to check too are play.com, dvd.co.uk, sendit.com, amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk ;-) You can get a whole series (26 episodes) of the original show for a tenner brand new - not bad I say! Actually, someone on eBay is doing them for £8.99 buy it now with free postage in the UK, and ships internationally, too.
<shrugs> Maybe it’s too technical for people not in computers, but I usually just search my browsers cache and rip out the video manually. It’s usually the largest file in the cache, something like “azc2hsa.tmp” or whatever. I don’t know if I would pay for any solution for something kind of simple like that.
My son has 3 UK original Thomas DVDs and 2 Japanese ones (They have the English language option) which are actually a lot better quality. It's as if Fuji TV (who released them) cleaned up the image before releasing them or that the UK DVDs are VHS ports. Some of the reds seem to bleed or warp. You know, like you get when using composite video. He likes the songs though and they're the hard ones to find :noooo: Yakumo
