    I was just reading something about Japan's lack of newborns and stuff until it got to a part when it mentioned those hostesses clubs where japanese women go

    I knew about those, but I never seen a foreign dude working there, only japanese.

    I know of foreign female "models" and such working on the female equivalent, but not foreign dudes.

    Anyone ever seen a non-asian guy working in those places?

    You have way too many S's in your subject and body.

    Hostess = female
    Host = male

    There are a few places that will entertain hiring a foreigner but they are few.

    IIRC they said "hostesses" but whatever, you get the point

    Any reason why?

    I'm not sure, totally, but one could be the number of host clubs compared to hostess clubs is tiny. The men are generally looking to go to hostess clubs to have someone laugh at their jokes, like their cigarettes, and tolerate their sexist (and often primitive) remarks. The host clubs are similar, but I think you'll find the clientel a bit more welcoming of chivalry, and that means the language barrier is going to come into play. I'm sure there are some women that are out to ride some stick, but I think it's less common. Again, this is just my take on it.

    There's a small section on the host/hostess clubs in this edition of Vice.

    I've been reading about a number of novelty cafes lately (black cats, penguins, etc) that I'm sure are nothing new to Japan but I'm curious if they have something like an "American" or "Australian" or "<insert non-Japanese country name here>" cafe where 100% of the food is authentic to that area (and not just modified like Japanese McDonald's are) as well as having ex-pats from that area.

    I could go for something like that here in the states but short of a big city I'm not sure where I'd find enough Japanese folk to make a Japanese cafe with. Plus American labor laws would probably make it extremely illegal to hire *only* people born in Japan.

    I don't think the population problem is enough to hurt that industry still a lot of young people that need money and its good money my cousin was a stripper and she used to bring home a grand or few a night. I used do sex cam stuff when I was 18 paid for my school. Perversion is huge.

    There were a few places in and around the Fukuoka area, near where I used to be based, which claimed to be real-deal American diners. Admittedly, they definitely pulled out all the stoppers to make the places look authentic, but the food didn't quite live up to the decor, and a few friends of mine from the US remarked that it was nothing like the stuff from back home. On the plus side, one place did have a part-time employee from the US working there.

    Irish pubs were dotted around too, but the situation was much the same - they served Guinness, but that aside it all felt very Japanised.

    Why want you guys always get that 101% authenticity of home food when visiting other countries? Why should McDonalds be everywhere the very same as in good ol' USoA or it won't live up to its name?

    I am sure in almost every bigger country there are living few expats that do some original homeland kitchen, but that sure isn't the norm, or what you wiould find at every 3rd corner. So I guess the answer is, yes there are.

    We have 3 Indian restaurants run and staffed by real Indian staff. The food is always fantastic. None of this Japanese idea of Indian food, its real Indian food. I love going there although my wife hates it. We also have 2 100% pure Taiwanese places. Again, run and staffed by Taiwanese with fantastic food.

    I don't know what real 'merican food is like anymore, every place I go has the same desperate attempts at "cool food" that is like the aborted son of texmex and NY trucks.

    The fact that now even most restaurants are franchises means there is no differentiation, the only way to know if you are in nocal or miami is how watered down the refills are

    I tried being a host in Yakuza 2, and I utterly failed at it, considering I couldn't do the champagne call.

    There's a lot more work to it than you think. Ever been on a first date w/ someone out of your league? Or maybe taken a girl to some nice event where you're supposed to be someone more polite than yourself? The prom, perhaps. Imagine doing that the entire shift, every day, and drinking a lot in the process.

    One of the problems is Japanese restaurants aren't accustomed to giving away free shit, and Japanese people aren't accustomed to stuffing their faces. So, the whole endless chips & salsa is just a lost cause. And what you pay for is a painfully small. I've seen menus say their guac serves 2-3 people, and then watch them make it w/ half an avocado. Some things should be left out of the hands of Asians. :)

    I'm absurdly courteous with women thanks in no small part to parents that demanded I be a gentleman and not the kind of annoying douchebag that gets laid.

    So yeah I would totally own it at talking with women politely
