I remember the vibrant colony that once was roar, and remember all of the web sites born from it. In spite of poor leadership, no sense of community and severe content restrictions, a lot of great things were brought about. Sometimes creativity comes about when motivated individuals are given a free, broad canvas for their ideas. Thinking about all the good projects that came out of the roar network, I wonder what could have happened if there had had been a cooperative, self supporting community. Fast foward some ten years, and with hard work and focus a community now exists. I would like to think it is a community with qualities beyond your average forum. A place that strives to be free of arrogance and treat all newcomers with respect. I think our community is creative and strong enough to make the next step. So, to any and all who qualify I will provide free full featured hosting on a subdomain. Interested? Groups must have a primary focus involving some aspect of video games. No goals no site. I am not hosting blogs. You must understand the basics of web page design and ftp. No one is here to hold your hand. The rules for this site apply to any sub-sites. No ROMZ no WAREZ, or direct linking to warez. FTP use by anyone other than the admin of the site is forbidded. Courtesy and respect are expected to be enforced on any sub-domains as if it were the parent domain. We strive to be a fair and balanced community. Any sub domains are to have the same values. Other than that there are no limits on creativity or content. Application below must be completed in full. Name and forum name Age E-mail Web Site address (if any) Primary focus and concept. (In no less than eight sentences! "pics" is not an acceptable concept) So that being said, let the creating begin.
Awesome! Though im not in need of it right now, it should prove to be a great motivator and organizer. I miss being able to have decent hosting for free. Great idea assembler
I think that this is a wonderful idea as each person here has a slightly different set of tastes. I would have jumped on this if I hadn't just set up my own forums. How about "affiliating" sites which also meet the same community criteria? I know that a lot of us already have sites and hosting.
Not so sure that would work out so well. For instance I wouldnt want anyone from my community finding out about this place, they wouldnt fit in here and would cause trouble. If you find Assemblergames on your own, chances are youll fit in nice.
Yea, but Id imagine the site would mostly be for rare gaming stuff, so if you visit one, it wont hurt to visit all.
can i ask something before eventually applying? ftp access would be limited only to the web page admin, right? i'd like to start a project i've been thinking about for a long time, but due to my really limited collection, i would need support from other people from the forum... let me explain the idea; i would like to create some sort of "BIOS and features" video archive that would contain videos of the various consoles startup, cd players, options, videocd capabilities and such.... providing that enough people are interested in that, i would need help from the people owning machines i don't..... so we end to the ftp part.... so my questions are: 1) are people interested in this? 2) there is any kind of flexibility about the ftp address? and if no, do anybody have suggestions?
Sounds Like a good idea, but if multiple FTP access isn't available then I have no ideas. I'd be willing to contribute what I can, and have a capture card.
Excellent idea ASSEMbler. I hope we'll see a really interesting set of websites come out of this. I've been meaning to set up a racing game tribute site with the run down of vehicles available in the games hosted, course maps, best lap times etc. Would that kind of thing be allowed?
Im sure you could probably have multiple admins. Im sure hes getting at no warez type FTPs, or Fabrizo-esque FTPs where everyone connects and downloads files driectly from it
I agree too, great idea ASSEMbler. ^_^ I've been trying to work on my site too each week but don't think I could get it ready for a while.
I'm guessing this is the site you are talking about: http://pcenginebible.roarvgm.com/ Roarvgm has some pretty nice sites when you do a google search. Wasn't it sold out to a pr0n company?
