I buy some new games. The last two were shadow of colossus and Chaos Field, and i only bought those because i wasn't sure how easy they would be to find later. I'd say most of my games are used by far, unless i'm using them as a display peice (yeah, i went cheep... i don't use wallpaper, i use videogames). If i think the game will be worth something in the future, i'll buy some extra coppies new sell'em then buy'em back used (for example, guitar hero, disgaea, cubivore... etc). Occasionally i'll get stuck with a few extra crappy games, which i give out as gifts.
to be honest with some of the new stuff lately i tend to wait, im waiting for re4 goes down to $20, same with gt 4, belive me i dont mind buying used much, in fact im one of those ebay whores who looks for cheap used games, alot of time the collocters take good care of their stuff, while places like gamestop actually take games with out manual and casing and charge you the same price(even if the condition is barely acceptable), belive me the only new games i get is for my ds, and thats if i really want them bad. I was almost going to pick up some old xbox games, but no good deals i saw today, jsut got a shitload of dvds.
I wait for prices to drop. It's my only chance, since all those miraculous OMFG GAMES FOR ALMOST FREE SALES never happen when I'm in the US and will never happen in Mexico. I can still find GB Classic games for full price in stores, these bastards rarely do liquidations or stuff like that. Hopefuly next week I get paypal and then, it's "hello american online discounts!"
Well, I buy new and used simaltaneously. I waited for all 6 titles of the Ratchet and Clank and the Jak and Daxter games to go down to $20 each before I got them all at once for $120. I normally dont like buying used stuff unless its an absolute necessity. Im always cautious and wary of them. I bought a copy of Alundra II, and the punks at Game Exchange said "It didnt come with a manual when it came out." I, like an idiot, didnt check for the manual. I expected it to be with the game since it was SEALED and they tried to pass it off as "Brand new". I usually wait for RPGs and things to drop in price but not Xbox FPSs. How fun would it be to wait for a game so long that the LIVE! community doesnt wanna play it anymore?
During the jewel case and cartridge era I would never buy used games. I don't know if it is just a regional thing but people here tend to treat their games like shit. Cracked cases, torn manuals, scratched games, ect. If I could find some places like Yakumo goes for used games it would be like I died and gone to heaven. I've been warming up to buying used games lately though. Mostly because the DVD style cases hold up better (I still think the jewel cases look nicer though) and my local Gamestop is really good about not buying scratched games. I still buy the games I want now and those that I think will have be hard to find later new but the games lower on my list I'll get discounted or used.
The EBgames store I go to has good conditioned used games, but they put like 60 stickers on the Cases. I used to think those stickers were to cover up boo-boos on the case.
That's true. I envy people that collect games in Japan. Everything, even if it's 15 years old, looks brand new. Everytime Yakumo post pictures or videos of game stores and arcades, i start to dream about visiting Japan. Hope i can do it till the end of this decade. But you guys in USA can't complain much. You can buy games sealed in bargain bins for 5 bucks. Here in Brazil, game stores will hold the price of the game no matter if it's not being sold. Plus most people here treat games like shit. Thank god for the Internet,so we can meet people that know how to keep games in MINT condition.
That is just because they won't buy anything less than great at these stores. Therefore that is all you'll see. Go to fleamarkets, you'll find the beat stuff. Here in the states, consoles are seen as disposable, so no one takes care of anything. Dreamcast especially so, they are usually caked with filth.
Hell yeah! I cant agree more on that. When I bought my DC, it had this crap that looks like the stuff a sticker leaves when you take it off on it. It was a weird substance that was hard as hell to get off without a toothbrush and heavy duty cleaning equipment stuff. At least the Game Exchange guy was nice enough to scrub and clean my DC for 15 minutes before ALL the crap was off of it. Makes me wonder. Did the previous owner spit on it and let dust collect on it? I never have anything cake on my systems. I take care of my stuff. Also, you might be at risk for germs if you buy used games. ASSEMbler, have you ever thought or taken into consideration what the previous owner had on his hands when he was handling his games and systems? He might have wanked off and then touched his game without washing his hands or other gross things. :noooo: I just thought about it, and made me more paranoid.
Doom 3 PC was that last game I bought new. As a matter of fact I think that's the only game I've ever bought new.
I quite often buy new games, simply because used ones are normally in such shite condition. I rarely pay over £20 for a game though, and most I paid about £10-15. Last games I paid over £20 for were Mario Kart and Animal Crossing both on the DS.
I never ever buy full-price new games (last one was HL:OpFor years ago), though I do buy new budget-priced stuff like the slew of PS2 shmups and 2D fighters that's been hitting the EU lately Funny thought, the most expensive game (138e) I ever bought came in today...
I'll usually wait for a price drop and then buy the game new. I just bought Far Cry for $20 brand new. EB Games tends to toss an ungodly amount of stickers on everything they sell, which is usually why I stay away from used games there. The local games shop ("Phat Boys"...) sells used games that almost always look mint. That might have something to do with the huge industrial CD "repair" machine at the front of the store, though. I don't have a problem buying used games from this place, but I almost never go there since the employees are usually condescending dickheads.
Most of my Saturn games are used except from Manx TT, Duke Nukem and Sonic R. My DC games are 50/50 some new ones and some used. Used games is a good choise and you can find some nice "treasures" in a very cheap price. My PDS was like that, in mint condition for 15e, absolutely crazy [well that was around 1998 ]
They should at least shrink wrap the case and put a sticker that says used on it, and all the other stickers if they please. Or get a free bottle of Un-Du with every 5 game purchases or something. That sounds A LOT like Cave man and Vintage stock. Everyone there acts like a prick know it all, and laughs if you ask for a certain game that might even be slightly rare. I asked for Rhapsody and this big fat guy laughed at me and said its 300 dollars, new. Everything is in good condition, but overpriced.
the only new games i will be getting are mega man x collection, the new zelda, possibly importing sega rally 2000 with sega rally bonus disc, and maybe subsidiance(sorry if i spelled that version of mgs3 wrong) but other then that im waiting atm, we had a game exchange in my town, but they were sede as hell, as well half the shit was just scattered on the shelves, they were selling games that had deep scratches and looked unplayable, and all their dc import games, mostly ones that are launch, were about 3 years old and they had the crazy mark up prices. Still i hear other ones are good, and they got alot stuff. But your right abotu consoles, i bougth a 64 off ebay with out pic, i get it in the mail, the end of the cord was replaced with one of those cheap replalcement caps, the controllers analouge was loose as well as the L button missing, and the damn thing had dents and scratches.
I buy new and used games simultaneously too, the problem here is to find second hand - used games in good condition or complete, sometimes is difficult. Is fantastic to see how the games in Japan are taken care of, you can usually buy any game with the almost total certainty that it will be in good or even perfect condition. These days many stores are lowering prices of XBOX games with the arrival of X360 so is a good time to buy some good games.
Looks like I've got to make a run to Kohl's. $12 DS games seems too good to pass up. Anyway, I will occasionally buy games full price. I bought MGS3 and GT4 brand new, because I just had to play those the instant they came out. In general though, I'll wait. I will likely be buying the following games new and at full price: -The Revolution, and any applicable Mario "platformer" launch title -The new GCN Zelda game -I will continue to buy full price DS titles, if they keep being so damned good, they're cheap anyway.
I buy all my games new (probably why I don't buy as much games as some here), except for old consoles like nes and snes were it's hard to find new games.
I don't buy anything new unless it's online only or I want to play it online. And even then I try to wait for a sale (for instance BestBuy was selling Call of Duty 2 PC for $35 a few weeks back and I had a coupon so it was only $30)
