I went out early today, there were sales, and one chain had 50% off all videogames. Mind you it's a small chain (kohls). The games aren't new released, but aren't best hits either. So I bought about 30 sealed RPGs for future investment, and a few titles for myself. ($6.00 each) I accidentally tore a wrapper on sonic collection plus, and decided to open it, as it's worth spit, and I wanted to play sonic 2. The realization is that this is the third xbox title I have actually bought new. Ever. Halo, halo2, and now sonic collection. In four years. Used games, I have a bookshelf of. So I was wondering how many more collectors have similar habits? I'll try to get a used copy, or clearance of games I want. I haven't paid full retail price for any game in almost ten years, with the exception of Shadow of the Colossus. Perhaps I am thrifty, but 150 games at $49.99 is almost $7500 without tax. Used? At $6 a pop, it's $900 total. A SIX THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED DOLLAR SAVINGS. Seriously, I can't ever see buying new.
Yeah, my Dreamcast collection is certainly along those lines. The only games I've paid full price for are all the imported NTSC-J Shmups and Virtual-ON. As for the PAL part of the collection, I only actually brought two games as new: Skies of Arcadia and Jet Set Radio, and each cost about £25. I used to love my local Gamestation. I could pop in there when I got paid and come out with a couple of mint condition DC game for £5 - 20 each. Resi:CV cost me about £15, Sonic, Trickstyle and Bangioh were a fiver each, FurFighters and Outtrigger a tenner each etc. Even Shenmue 1 & 2 and the HotD boxset(inc gun) were only £20 each. Thing is all the games were mint. I'm not sure if they were second hand, or just cheap because of PS2 love, but it was great whilst it lasted for a year or so.
The last game i paid full price was Gran Turismo 4. Before that, i don't remember (i'm not joking). Probably 90% of my games were bought used (but in MINT condition). I plan on getting God of War, Shadow of the Collossus and maybe Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3 (both Snake Eater and Subsistence) sealed too. It will depend on the cost.
I can't really think was the last game I've bought new (excluding budget released PC games). Looking at my list, there's a lot of games bought "as new", but from the stores and properly sealed, I have to go as far a two years ago, when I've bought Mechcommander, and even that one was dirt cheap - 6.10 eur. With four stores selling used games, I really don't have a reason to buy them new.
Most of my dc collection was used games. I have a jap dc so it meant my local shops computer exchange (spit) always had second hand jap games for dirt cheap as there wasnt much of a market for along time. Most games i paid very little for £5-£15. (i was pretty young back then so even then i dint buy that many games. I wish i did buy alot more.)
I haven't bought a new game apart from the new Dreamcast shooters in years. Since the Dreamcast died actually. Oh, wait a minute, does buying factory sealed games from Yahoo auctions count as new? If so then all the time I guess. Yakumo
I usually try to find a hidden game, in the wrong category on ebay, but i can never find the deals yall do
Mmm I always manage to get new games at insanely low prices, so yeah I mostly avoid paying the full price. I bought ICO LE for 11 euro's new some while ago for example.
I buy new games if it's something I want, but I buy lots of used to. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play either of them often. I think I bought about 6-8 new games in 2005.
The last console game that I paid full price for was Armored Core 2 for the Playstation 2, back in 2002. Other than that was Counter-Strike Anthology for the PC that I bought about a month ago. To me, I see no difference in buying used "CD/DVD-based" games that come with everything in good condition.
i used to buy almost all of my play station games used, back when the next gen consoles were just coming out, the local ebgames had hundreds of gmes dirt cheap, and when they finally cleared them out, many were going for under a buck..
I'll be the outcast, but I try to avoid used games at all costs if possible. I keep my games in immaculate condition; no scratches, dirt or fingerprints. Every time I see a used game in a store, it is covered with scratches and I find it ridiculous that people treat their games like that. Now, I will wait a little while for some games to drop in price, but I usually get the ones I want sooner rather than later.
I usually dont buy used games from Gamestop or EBgames, but ive bought some used mint ones off of various forums that are basically new that were worth it
Well it depends on where you get them. The first thing i ask about a used game is not the price, it's the condition. I don't have any game with scratches. The only "problem" in my small collection is the PS1 Philosoma Longbox version. It's missing the manual. Everytime i come across this game, it's missing the case and manual or just the manual. I can't find the damn manual to make it complete! :banghead:
I try to avoid buying new full-price games too - if there's something new I want I usually ask for it for christmas or my birthday ^_^ Unfortunately my birthday's at the end of the summer though, so that doesn't always work out too well - I ended up having to pay for GT4 myself this year because I couldn't wait. I'm also one for looking for good deals - I got Ridge Racer Type 4 for about £12 in some christmas sale (and a Scandinavian copy for some reason too ), and a couple of months ago on my trip to Dublin I found RC de Go! - a game released 5 years ago - brand new in a Game shop for €15!! The funniest part was that it was published here by Acclaim - I guess the warranty isn't valid any more! XD
I used to do the exact same. I used to avoid buying used games, until gas prices rose. Now, I've gotta save that extra penny whenever I can!
Was only early birds. (6am) I got armfuls of ds games for $12.00 each I was going to return them to Best Buy, but they have me blacklisted hehe. So now mum gets to return" xbox games she didn't" like for christmas.
