Werehog levels would be fine if they weren't so incredibly frustrating and cosisted of more than bashing 25 bad guys every 10 seconds..
I'd be quite happy to get my kid a full price release if i could also download an old skool 2D game off live. Releasing them on portables is fine for people that travel a lot or whatever but when at home i prefer big screen gaming.
You know I gotta be honest though, I kind of Dug Shadow's game. IT had it's flaws but over it was pretty solid. Sonic 2006.....Well the real villian in the game is the camera. But also half assed level design and interspecies romance. And your reward for beating the game..... Deus Ex Machina that makes it so the game never happend. Where's my will of the macrocasim (Excel saga reference) to stop me from making that my first 360 game) I should've listend to my 360 when it red ringed 4 minutes after I put it in my brand new system. Sonic Rivals isn't that great either, the fact it's a race game just makes it nerve wracking and the music sucked too. The elements of a good sonic game are SO simple, Speed, Level design Balance with a good mix of said speed and platforming, A few bonus stages some good boss battles and great music. A gimmick or friend here and there is fine as long as they don't over do it. The warehog could work in the Sonic CD Context where past present and future variants of stages are available In the event of a bad future, you're the warehog. That would be fine. Sonic CD needs to be the template for All sonic games
One of the most epic games ever crafted, LONG as fuck though. But as far as a barebones bullshit free sonic goes, Sonic CD has all the elements. Both are good templates BUT sonic 3 did introduce something we don't want, Sonic's friends.
Sonic's friends weren't annoying in that. All it really introduced was Knuckles. You had Sonic and Tails, Tails, and Knuckles and each playthrough was a bit different and 14 emeralds. It was awesome as hell. I played through the whole thing last year again.
Well it was the start of the "And Friends" Thing. Then again I guess sonic 2 is just as Guilty but every good Mascot needs a sidekick. The other thing about Sonic CD I Love is the music....well, the Mega CD Version anyway.
Yeah GOH: SEGA should take a cue from CAPCOM and make Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for XBLA, PSN & WiiWare. I think something like that is certainly possible, since Takao Miyoshi (Sonic Team, Phantasy Star Universe producer) just created & released what is essentially a FAMICOM game (Pole's Adventure) for WiiWare in Japan. I don't care too much though - I'm still pleased as punch with Sonic 1 and could play it forever. I realize I'm not the norm.
I would love to see something in this vein regarding Sonic. Or even something as fantastic as getting a GOOD sprite artist to recreate Sonic in the form he should have always been in, 2D! My personal dream is Vanillaware+SEGA = new Sonic
A new 2d HD Sonic game. Hopefully a Boy and His Blob does well on Wii and we start seeing hand drawn 2d HD games more and more.
Personally I never really enjoyed the old Sonic games too much. Never liked the fact that he could run so fast as to burst through solid walls but had trouble walking up a hill at a normal pace.
i've already decided that if my kids play video games, they will not be allowed to play current gen consoles until they have proven themselves. they will start with the NES. "What's that? You beat Super Mario Bros.? Now you play Megaman." They will gradually play through games until I think they are worthy to move on, to the next generation. The will not have a Wii, they will not play Carnival Games, movie/tv show based games, I will have a strict no crap rule. If it's not Scottish, it's crrrraaaap! Gotta raise those kids right! :katamari2
Don't deprive them of modern classics like JSR and Rez Rez might tell you if your kid has Epilepsy Sigh....... every time I open my cabinet I see Jet Set (Grind) Radio there and I'm tempted to pop it in meh Dreamcast. But I can't That Sega is long dead. Oh also.....would hurt to let the childrens play Cosmic Smash
