dont think so, closest i've seen is the top down shooters like loaded, alien breed etc, but they're not even that close smash tv was great
There aren't any jet ski racers (i.e. Wave Race) around at the moment. There are no 3D beat 'em ups (i.e. Dynamite Deka). There are no arcade-style flight simulators (i.e. Landing Gear, Landing High Japan).
Says the guy whose avatar had games like Sexy Parodius and Sengoku Blade released on it Adventure games are the obvious absent genre (it's basically just Telltale keeping it alive) but we're also critically short on 2D platformers. We've had Rayman Origins and that's it.
the classic space ship shooters are just well, i dunno, more nostalgic / feel cooler / more badass i generally like most if not all shmups, but much prefer the spaceship style over the anime fantasy / girl ones, although they do have their place, they're no replacement for the likes of mars matrix, radient silvergun, r-type etc. its a different sub genre but can be awesome i'd like to see the two mixed in some kind of ultra mad crazy ghost in the shell / robotech / 80s/90s intergalactic blastemup of awesome proportions, but thats just me shmups generally have great soundtracks too.
Even a shooter as simple as Tempest would be great to see again. On a console not some fan made PC remake.
Chris Roberts just had a Kickstarter for a new game called Star Citizen, and there's an Elite Kickstarter you should give money to as well.
Privateer 3 ? Why not? Star Citizen looks like it will be a really great game. P.S. LOL, 2 posts about Star Citizen in a few seconds.
"GOOD" is a genre that got forgotten. Said that I miss some point-and-click. Something like Goosebumps and Tex Murphy.
Dunno about you, but once I get playing a good shmup, I'm usually paying less attention to my ship/little anime girl/whatever, and I'm more focused on all the shit that coming towards me. So the actual appearance of the ship doesn't matter much (and it's usually pretty small, anyway).
I agree with that, but my point was more about the fact that there are too many bullet hell games as opposed to traditional shmups. Still, it would be nice to have more shmups with art design that's not based on 11-year-old animes in bikinis.
now what would be great is a run n gun side scroller contra style gameplay only in the anime/manga style with multiple characters including girls in skimpy costumes edit: also yes space combat sims, loved them, there have been a few recently but they've been 3rd person transgenre games so not the same.
There's Hard Corps. I've only played the demo, but it was pretty fun, and it had some pretty visuals. On related note, I wish they would release Dolphin Blue on consoles, as I'm interested in the game but never had the chance to play it.
