After reading Xbox-Scene I don't really know what it lets you do. Can you ISO from it? Does it need to be connected to your PC?

maybe you load the loaders from the flash thing and then... stream with network adaptor? coz parallel isnt that fast, is it?

I believe you load them on to a flash memory device, which then boots up from the GC bios, and you can do stuff from there.

Ooh interesting... a modchip that is *really* for homebrew development instead of using it as an excuse to load ISOs :smt033

    So it's pointless? ;-)

  8. Probably, but this business of being able to load different BIOS' surely means that you could write a BIOS so it reads MiniDVs? Or indeed, access the BBA, without the need for PSO and the loader?

All mod-chips ever have been designed with piracy in mind. Can't see this one being any different. I mean, Xbox mods are sold as 'Linux-loaders'. How many Xecuter owners use it to run Cromwell and not EvoX/X2 BIOS? Not many.

I'm sure we will see a totally legal Linux BIOS (a la Cromwell) in the near future. And that's a good thing. A tiny ikkle box for internet use would be great. And a no-messing-around N64 emu would kick ass. Bring it on.

But I have to say congratulations to Nintendo for the anti-mod protection on the GC. Well done, it's lasted this long. And longer than any of the current gen machines.

On the contrary, I think it's quite interesting :)

I thought I remember seeing a "homebrew only" modchip for the PS2, but maybe I was just imagining it ;-) .

It'll still be quite difficult to pirate the system, what with the optical media type its on. Can't exactly but those at Wal-Mart. :smt043

I guess this looks cool, but can it do anything an Xbox similarly set up can't?

I wonder what the transfer speeds would be on that?

Erm, isn't miniDV a videotape format? I'm confused now :smt022

I think he meant Mini DVDs. Ninty probably has some form of write protection on the disc itself anyway. I don't believe there's images readily available for GC on the 'net, though I could be wrong.

That's why I said could be wrong. I don't go searching for them, ya know. ;-)

Yes, that one exists, too. :smt023

  18. Update - seems it's coming out next week. Still no official site tho. But here's a link to the article and manual downloads. Installation looks ultra simple. I can't believe how easy it really does look. The PC software seems ok, and the developer's manual seems thorough.

Since im in this line of work (bulid/help run a site related to it)

The modchips for the PS2 out there now all come with a BLANK flash, it will still boot originals fine, so technically they are LEGAL..if you happen to flash it with an "illegal bios" (like the xbox chips now) thats on you!

The Viper GC, will be out very very soon, I dont know WHY people keep getting their news from Xbox Scene, when theres another site (namely the one i help run, but im not posting links!) that had the news before hand!

There is supposed to be a bios that will allow the Viper GC to boot mini DVD-R's out (possibly this weekend)... I will leave it at that!
