    After the E3, with games like Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Crimson Dragon and Ryse (originally developed for PS3/X360, now for PS4/XBOne), I started wondering about the games that moved from one generation to another. I'm thinking of Final Fantasy VII, ICO and... I'm sure there should be plenty more. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Chaotix (MD > 32X)
    Final Fantasy XIII (PS2 > PS3)
    GoldenEye (Snes > N64)
    Grandia ? (I read on Wikipedia it started as a Mega-CD game)
    Gravity Daze (PS3 > Vita)
    Gun Valkyrie (DC > XBOX)
    Mission impossible (MD/SNES > N64)
    Mother 3 (N64 > GBA)
    Onimusha (PS1 > PS2)
    Shenmue ? (Saturn > Dreamcast)
    Shining Wisdom ? (As for Grandia, wikipedia says its development started on MD)
    Sim City (Famicom > Super Famicom)
    Sonic Adventure (Saturn > Dreamcast)
    Sonic Mars (though the game was very different from one version to another)
    Starfox adventure (started as Dinosaur Planet)
    Virtua Fighter 3 (Saturn > Dreamcast)
    ...

    You can also add unreleased games such as Power Drift (Mega Drive > Mega-CD > Mega Drive + SVP), Ratchet and Bolt (Mega Drive > 32X)...

    Here are a few more examples that I can think of:

    Sega Rally Championship (Model 1 > Model 2)
    Panzer Dragoon (32X > Saturn)*
    Biohazard/Resident Evil 2 (Saturn > Dreamcast)
    SCUD Race (Saturn > Dreamcast)**
    Marvel VS Capcom (Saturn > Dreamcast)**
    Street Fighter III (Saturn > Dreamcast)**
    The House Of The Dead III (Dreamcast > Xbox)
    ToeJam & Earl III (Dreamcast > Xbox)
    OutRun 2 (NAOMI > Chihiro)

    *There are conflicting reports on this one, but several different sources claim it was originally a 32X project while others maintain it was always intended as a Saturn launch title.

    **These were definitely in the earliest stages of production on the Saturn, only to be later developed for the Dreamcast. In the case of SCUD Race, however, even this never saw the light of day.

    Tomb Raider - 32x -> Saturn/PSX
    Swagman - 32x -> Saturn/PSX
    Virtual Golf - 32X -> Saturn

    All three by Core Design.

    Segafreak_NL > You can add Shellshock to your list.

    Anthaemia > As for Clockwork Knight and Daedalus, Panzer Dragoon was one of the few games that was mistakenly reported as a 32X game. Some Saturn games seem to have been planned for the 32X at one stage though (Victory Goal, Daytona USA, etc ?).

    While we are on this topic, if someone has informations to share about Grandia and Shining Wisdom on Mega Drive/Mega-CD, it would be much appreciated.

    Are you sure? According to Unseen 64 is was originally planned for the SNES. How much development was done I couldn't say but it does seem at least that it was intended for the 16 bit generation before being moved on to the PSX.

    How did I forget Core's various 32X > Saturn projects?

    Also, I only listed Panzer Dragoon because many publications back in the day (wrongly?) listed this as being a 32X title first. My understanding is that Sega opened three Japanese teams (Ara, Andromeda and Aquila) with the sole purpose of developing Saturn launch titles, and that these divisions produced Clockwork Knight, Panzer Dragoon and Victory Goal respectively. In other words, none of these games were ever being made for the 32X, though I do seem to recall that Daytona USA was mentioned as both a 32X project and even a follow-up to Virtua Racing on the Megadrive using the same SVP chip... was it even capable of texture mapping?

    I've never heard of Deadalus/Robotica or Shining Wisdom being mentioned for anything other than the Saturn, but I faintly remember Grandia possibly starting off its life on the Mega CD. I'll have to look into that one, as I know GameArts definitely supported this upgrade hardware for quite a while because they gave us Silpheed.

    P.S. I know that Gran Chaser/Cyber Speedway was the spiritual successor to a PC racing game, but was it always planned to be a Saturn exclusive? This is another game from early in the console's life that I suspect may have originally been meant for another platform - possibly even the PC.

    There is this strange and obscure game I remember.
    Cannot really remember what generation it was, the game was not that spectacular.
    I think it was called Duke Nukem Forver or something....

    GoldenEye never saw any actual development on the SNES. It was initially proposed as a SNES game, but all actual development (including design) targeted the N64.

    That's exactly what I meant. Maybe he means actual development, since the screens are likely to be mockups. Anyway, I think we can affirm it was at least planed for SNES.

    Super Paper Mario GC > Wii
    Pikmin 3 Wii > WiiU

    It's amazing how Kameo made it on the Gamecube box even though the game was sadly never released on GC.

    Perfect Dark Zero was in development for the GameCube, not the N64
