If you're talking NFR copies, then the Donkey Kong 64 demo cart is probably near the top of the list in terms of limited print run. You can also find NWC carts on eBay. Rare does not mean not available to purchase.
Wii U release of Scribblenauts Unlimited European PAL release is very rare due to getting pulled at the 11th hour. Only a few slipped out via pre-order.
HEY I GOT THAT GAME!!!! Picked it up at a old game store a long time ago. Some how it ended up being traded in. Picked it up for about 20, about maybe 7 years ago. Only the cart though no manual or box. I think really English Shenmue 2 for DC is pretty rare as it was near the end of the lifespan of DC, That game easily catches 100+ on ebay all the time
I remember that back in the days EGM had an add that apologized for Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition limited copies and opened the preorders for Super Bowl III I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says that Nintendo Power magazine mentions that approximately 15,000 units were shipped to North America.
Did you see the NCAA 2K3 on Gamecube for $1,750?! http://www.ebay.com/itm/VGA-85-NCAA...d=100011&prg=1005&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=370863688426& There's 2, brand new, on Amazon for $5,000 a piece. http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Sports-NCAA-College-Basketball-GameCube/dp/B00007B9N2 But here's an interesting thought from a guy on another forum that was discussing NCAA 2K3 for Gamecube
Just because someone has listed it for that much, it doesn't mean it is going to sell for that much (and thus it is not worth that much). We need to look at completed listings if we are trying to value a game... (listings, as in more than one completed listing at that...)
It was available retail. I remember seeing it at Target when Gamecube stuff was starting to fall out of favor. Even then I knew it was rare, but I didn't want to spend $40 on a sports game I'd never play just on the odd chance that it might be worth $100 or something in the future. They had several copies as well. I ended up buying PSO I&II and the Broadband adapter instead.
So glad I read this!!!!! I actually have NCAA College Basketball 2K3 for Gamecube!!!!! I cannot believe it, I have thought of trading it in so many times for other games thinking it would get me a buck or two, man, now I'm keeping this thing for good!!!!
Gran Turismo 4 Online test version (Japan) - About 4700 copies Anyway, it's important to remember that just because something has a low print run, doesn't make it more valuable.
In-fucking-deed. The rarest and hardest-to-find games in my whole collection all cost less than $20 each.
Speaking of Blockbuster, what about their exclusive N64 games? http://blog.pricecharting.com/2012/06/stevesesy-guide-to-nintendo-64.html
Minimum quantity for DC was 5000 pieces if official release. N64 minimum quantity is somewhere around 12,000 pieces, so more like 12,000 versus 10,000.
No matter how many times I tell people 'low number of makes, doesn't mean more value'. It's the demand.
Blockbuster has >9000 locations in 1996 -2004 So 3x per store is 27,000 copies. 2x per store (probably the minimum) is 18,000 copies. Far from rare really. The boxes are the most rare part as the first thing the store did was put the box on display where it would be damaged almost right away.
NBA Elite 11 for PS3 : Not sure how many were made, I think it was something like 1000 copies, since this game was cancelled at the last minute, don't know if there was any Xbox 360 copy. Verytex Mega Drive : Not sure too, but it tends to cost more than 100 dollars on ebay, when I bought one in Brazil for a little less, I didn't find any original copy in ebay back in the day.
