For me, the games I keep saying I will play (but never do) are:
Sim City 4 (I have played Sim City 3000 but never SC4)
Oblivion (I havent played it but if its as good on PC as it is on 360...)
Tony Hawks Pro Skater (I think the last one I played was THPS3)

Just about to install the deluxe edition and see how well it runs on my computer, it's a great game that is just as good as SC 3000 and even beter than the new game societies or whatever its called.

I m a few hours into God Of War 2 and I find it average. I guess the quality of PS2 games must be pretty damn low for this to be considered something special.

My main complaints are as follow:

    - Despite beautiful environments the character's interation with them is minimal. Kratos just glides through levels and the player button mashes while a pretty good music piece plays.

    - There's no sense of exploration in what I see as a glorified Fighting Force or Shaolin Monks. The gameplay is cheap despite the technology behind it.

    - The PS controller fails (once more) to engage me and I have to "think" before my hands act - something that never occured on the 360, nintendo systems, and Sega systems. I question the sanity of the decision to keep the PS3 controller the same, besides fear of alienating the masses.

    - The gameplay just doesn't seem to offer any depth, despite combos and the moves one acquires along the way. I ve been kicking ass since Streets of Rage and Battle-toads, and this is more of the same without the co-op.

For all the above reasons, I m starting to wory about people's taste when it comes to games - how come something so average get such high ratings and praise?!

Come on, defend your console and this title you PS2 fans :p

God of War 1 was really fun because of the awesome boss fights, violence and storyline, but it got really repetitive near the end, but I have to agree with you on the graphics and controller. I have no idea how 2 is. The PSP demo I played is one of the coolest handheld games I've played, however.

Let’s see, you complain about both the character’s interaction with the enviroment and the sense of exploration. The way I see it, you look for too much depth in a hack n’ slash game like God of War. An excellent game like Ninja Gaiden (better game for me than God of War) has little to no interaction and, aside from looking for some extra power-up the gameplay is pretty linear. I do not see this as a flaw on these games, but more like the genre’s style, just like it’d be strange to critisize PGR4 for not letting you explore NY the way you do it in GTA.

I’d say the controller issues are just a matter of being accustomed or not. I felt the same way with the 360 controller after years playing with the Dual Shock brand. Right now, playing fps' like Resistance feels weird with the Dual Shock.

Heh, I wish I could've done the same with my Nintendo "Million Sellers" edition crap. Man I so hated those, but was left with no choice as I couldn't afford most games when they were first released. :/

I also own ninja gaiden on the XBOX and its way better - it "feels" more interactive, be it the better camera angles or the way the character feels in-place and reacts to the elements (instead of just gliding around).

Hack and slash it may be , ninja gaiden, but it feels more polished.

IS the PSP version like the console versions? I m curious to see how they ll update it for the PS3.

Wow, I remember putting off Vectorman for the Sega Genesis and decided I'd buy it someday.

I just recently bought the Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2, and it happens to include Vectorman 1 and 2. :110:

Well I'm coming into this thread pretty late but I'd have been happy to have told you God of War wasn't worth getting...
Seems to me that most people will still cling to whatever they're told to like (things never change). It get old very quickly and the majority of it's mainstream charm lies in how "bad ass" Kratos is, drawing in frat boys for the same reasons most of them liked the movie 300: it makes them feel "buff and awesome!"
I really don't mean to sound elitist here but for how everyone and their brother was pushing this game on me (and everyone else) it really should have had more to it.
I much prefer Shadow of the Colossus even though that too got a bit repetitive it was a much more interesting and satisfying game.
    Anyway [/RANT]

I was after SotC initially, but GoW2 was the only available title at the shop, and I couldnt resist not getting it for the price it was for brand new :|
That said, it's an ok game for a few kicks between other things, but hardly the game I d spend 10 hours in front of

Only Duke Nukem deserves that title.

I really do like the God of War on PSP though. It's a great handheld game.

It's not even been seen yet, so we are left guessing. However, I think you are overly harsh on something that is meant to be fairly mindless. It's selling point is the epic battles and the sheer visceral pleasure.

they hype it got from everyone around me made it sound like THE game to own on the PS2, which would imply a certain depth - even the reviews praise it and say it's a game that everyone should play and finish!

It is against this background that lie my complaints Sir!
