Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 was awful. I remember being so excited for it to come out,I saw screenshots, and was disgusted with what they had done to it. I must have been about 10.

Pretty much anything I play I either get obsessed with or become instantly bored.
With that said I played all these but couldn't beat the final boss.
    -Majora's Mask
    -Mega Man X series
    -Donkey Kong Country 2

Hmm, I always seem to fall in the water due to just constantly running / jumping in those games. That level just feels uninspired overall, it just breaks the flow of greatness before & after for me.

Yeah, I can't believe that wasn't in my opening post. I did play through it all the way my first time, but out of my dozens of attempts to beat it again, I probably only did two more times.
That game has the best music of any RPG(maybe even game) hands down. So fitting of the various regions & battles, so beautiful. I do like the battle system in some ways, but I despised it for awhile.

    Same on these two.

Yoshi's Island is a masterpiece, but I must've only beaten it a couple times.

I knew their would be a lot of RPGs mentioned. Surprised people would keep trying to play through FF8 when it's so disliked. Not that every game you don't finish has to be a bad or unliked one. I thought it was great, but I rarely beat Final Fantasies more than once, unless it's 6.

Which reminds me. I got all the way to the end of FFX, but never beat the final boss. I really enjoyed that game, & really liked that grid leveling up thing.

Never beaten Majoras Mask, either. I only got to the Zora mask part, no further. That game had some cool elements, but it didn't suck me to in to its world.

The Mega Man X games are some of my best SNES memories, but, in the end, I think that X and X2 are the masterpieces. While I did play through X3 legitimately, I always have to cheat for the final Sigma fights. I consider it an odd difficulty spike, and it helps that my real-life pals couldn't/can't manage the feat either.

Now that I think about it, I've forgotten how I ever managed to manipulate three face buttons (dash, jump, and fire) at once as a kid.
These days, to get the same results, I'd probably need dash reconfigured to a shoulder button.

Majora's Mask is one game I've managed to restart a TON of times, but I've only ever gotten to about halfway before moving on. I'm always ready for another good Zelda, but Majora's Mask's logic always seems to push me away.

One day, Majora's Mask, one day.

I completed Majora's Mask (with a lot of help from my wife and copious note-taking) the first time I attempted it, and it was a wonderful gaming experience, but how ever many times I try I can't find my way back into it, which is odd, because I still happily play through Ocarina a least every couple of years.

I mean, are we going to include games that are just plain bad? Because I could give you a list.

Starting with Spirit of Speed, because you can't adjust the length of races, and some of them are like 30 laps long, and it's garbage.

    Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life!

I'm totally into it for the first year (game year), but then you get a wife and kid and... well... I just stop playing.

I am in the process of trying to beat it once and for all yet again, though.

No. This thread is for games that you keep going back to but never seem to finish. The game can be a masterpiece or garbage.
I am not looking for lists of games you've played once & never beaten, or another list of worst games. We all have hundreds of those.

Funnily enough, I've smashed the sh*t out of FFVII and FFVIII, but couldn't finish FFIX, found it lost its appeal by about disc 3. Also Breath of Fire III, mostly RPGs, that reminds me, still need to finish Resident Evil Code Veronica.

I just don't like the three day schedule. I guess I really just haven't thought in depth about manipulating it. I've played through ocarina of time countless times and play through every other year or so. I really enjoy how you can go back and forth from being a kid to an adult. The three day thing though every time I think about it....uhhh. I've probably started it at least 3 times again and haven't gotten far.

    The OP mentioned it first.

Also I have yet to finish FF VII. Around 13 hours in I just got so bored. One of these days I'll motivate myself, probably before the remake comes out.

Lol, I must have clocked about 100 hours in FFVII, u have to power through around the 13-15 hour mark as it gets dull. I suppose there's 1 game for everyone that gets them going.

pre-RE4 Resident Evil. Tank controls... I like the games but... Same with my wife. She tried to play RE0 but ended playing Fire Emblem :D She finished SH1-3 though.

Same with Alone in the Dark 4 (or whichever number A New Nightmare was). It's hard to go to the tank controls, especially since I kinda skipped the fifth gen.

Honestly, once you're a parent with a full time job, any RPG that requires grinding for EXP becomes impractical.
I do the vast majority of my gaming on various handhelds, in bed, before I go to sleep at night. I'm already mentally tired and frequently
end up playing pick-up-and-play stuff like Every Extend Extra or Qix++ or maybe a 2D fighter. Anything with a 10 minute opening sequence has no chance.

I'm going to be completely honest, almost every single game I play now.

    I started but never finished:

    Earthbound
    Mother 1 and 2
    Dead Space 2
    Pokemon Alpha Ruby
    Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
    GTA San Andreas
    GTA 3
    GTA Vice City
and a lot more but those are just the ones off the top of my head.

The only game I've finished in the last few years is GTA 5, GTA 4 (all DLC), and Spoiler Alert (mobile game). I just never got back into gaming after I lost my Platinum, which had around 900 hours and an almost-filled Pokedex. Or maybe it's because I've grown up. Who knows.

I can actually relate to this, but I believe it's that you probably have other priorities now. When I was younger all I cared about was when I'd actually be able to switch on the N64 next. As of late, I've been pretty hooked on the Xbox One with Tomb Raider and Forza 5. I don't play for as long as I used to, my eyes get tired and neck starts to hurt. #oldage :p

Yeah, I mean high school has really hit me hard (shitty teachers + lack of motivation) and now my idea of relaxing is sleeping and lying in bed. Then all the homework and shit I've got cuts into my free time. I wish I didn't grow up haha. Not to mention, I just don't have the money to buy games anymore .

Does "finishing" a Pokemon game just count beating the Elite Four/Champion, or catching all the mons? Cause I've never caught them all, but I think I've beat the Elite 4 in all but Sapphire that I have.
