http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKnzeXkefDo&feature=player_embedded Show some respect kid Contra is a Classic *prepubecent voice* It's not Halo or Call of Duty....... GAH Given a choice between Call of Duty/Halo (and I do love me some modern warfare) I'd choose Contra. ARGH...... *nerd rage*
Its like when i show my brother sonic 3, "" wheres the online?"" "why's it flat?" makes me sad :crying:
That video is sad and amusing at the same time. Contra still looks great after all these years, the color pallete reminds me of Atari system 2 games like Paperboy. Halo 3 has an awful graphics engine for a game of this or really any generation. I have a feeling the kid isn't a real hardcore gamer as he'd rather be out playing hockey or some nhl video game. Real gamers want nothing to do with sports or the outside world!
LOL SO TRUE There is something timeless there are from what I understand 5 more videos after that one. He plays battletoads next
I watched the whole series and after the Contra video he seems alot less like the stereotype of some little brat on Xbox Live playing Halo or Call of Duty all day in videos after Contra. But like all kids that age they have a hard time expressing much meaningful opinion. Lots of very generic "it's ok" type statements. Anyway, I'd pick about anything over Halo. I think I'd even rather play Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde on NES than play Halo. CoD is ok but gets boring after awhile.
sit some Narutard infront of a megasis with Shadow Dancer in it see what happens.... I say Shadow Dancer becuase I personally prefer it over Shinobi III and Revenge of Shinobi Even worse...... NINJA GAIDEN when I was lord knows I never got past the 2nd level in any of the NGs I'm still a huge fan. But really reguardless how can you hate ninja games there are shitty ones but Shinobi, Shadow of the Ninja, Ninja Gaiden? I defy any 11 year old even today to NOT enjoy those. If not...THEY HAVE NO SOUL
I liked the series. It was actually kind of interesting hearing a child's opinion on all those games I grew up playing. I think the difficulty of Contra is what put him off the most. Even when Contra was new most kids at the time just used the Konami code to be able to complete. Had a nice hard laugh when the interviewer mentioned kid's sneaking into their dad's PC to unlock Leisure Suit Larry back in the day in the final video. I think I still have the age verification questions memorized from doing that so many times as a child.
I was going to quote "YOUTUBE" but then I realized I was too drunk to care. Kids fucking suck. At the same time, I hate the whole "retro" scene and the status that comes with it. I just want to have fun, and when I see people not doing so because they're caught up in stupid stuff like Halo (which I do enjoy, btw)... I don't know. It just dissapoints me that things must be generalized and categorized. Blah.
Not all kids are like this. I know a 7yr old who still likes to play the old Gameboy-platformers on his DS and knows about the entire GB hardware history (but the GB light and devs of course ). The capability to (at least) appreciate vintage media or retro games is linked to the intelligence of the kid. If he's dumb and doesn't get any input from his parents, he'll like whatever TV shows him and his friends say is cool. If he's an independent thinker and his environment (->parents) show him an entity of things that are also not necesserily up-to-date, it'll learn to appreciate them as well. Think of black and white movies. Maybe not everyone likes them, sure thing, but only a stupid ignorant fucker would call them "bad and boring" only for their lack of colors. The kid in the video is a fucking moron. He's the gaming-equivalent to those kids who prefer 2000+ action-films to 1975-1990 action flicks because of fast cuts, computer shit and animated tits on plastic girls
ave, did you watch the whole series? The first video makes him look like a Halo playing douchebag but if you watch all 6 videos he redeems himself some. Hawanja, you're right about that but it's not just kids. There are adults that didn't get into playing video games until recently and they are terrible at games. When you have a large population of shitty game players you have to dumb down your game to sell it to them. Some won't play a game that is too challenging. While we'd say tough shit then don't play, to game developers that isn't acceptable as they want to sell to everyone they can. But atleast there is still a fairly big pool of gamers out there that actually appreciate challenge.
I agreed until I saw this. Myself having played games since contra days, like Halo, It has a very expansive universe of characters. And Halo 3 does Have a great engine. Don't be the typical Retro gamer following the crowd doing the "OMG HALO is the worst game evar" crap. It'd be no different than being a FFVI fanboy , yelling in peoples faces about why It's so much better than VII or any other. Etc etc etc. It goes back to really, that gaming is a mainstream Hobby in modern times. It's not just for the "so-called nerds" back in the earlier days. And I don't think they have to dumb it down, game design and 3d have expanded in very large ways, and games back in older times were harder because of restrictions of hardware and game design itself. You couldn't move in 8 directions, you could move in 4 (most commonly) you can only have so many sprites on screen, so many sound channels etc. I really don't think it's been dumbing it down, more or less game design is a lot easier and more practical with standardized tools than It used to be. some games go back to the older design style Ala Dracula X chronicles which injects more difficulty into it. Personally In my opinion. Difficult does not = a better game. Not by far.
My 10 year old nephew is exactly the same. I sometimes force him to play some harder games before I let him choose a game that he wants  I just feel like kids don't appreciate all this technology which they are being given.
I should do the same thing with my autistic brother though my parents probably wouldn't be down with me putting it up on you tube. I do know my Brother apprecates the old school.
Maybe if a game has too much difficulty, but a game that isn't challenging enough might as well just be a movie.
