Any doubts that EA is the fucking Lucifer of the industry are now put to rest. Fuck EA...SEGA will likely lose the ESPN franchise now and have generica football players in their 2K lineup, which no one is going to bother with at $19.99 even.

Is this how fucking scared EA was by the sheer quality and market share stolen by ESPN? They don't even have the fucking confidence in their own fucking franchise to allow it faor competition? Did ESPN really have you that fucking running scared you EA fuckbags?

    FUCK YOU [IMG]

I hate EA. This is pathetic. They were so scared of Sega actually getting a hold of "their" market that they had to resort to the lowest kind of tactics ever. What minuscule amount of respect I ever had for EA is now gone.

I play and own every football, golf, baseball adn basketball game that comes out each and every year and I'm not sure why everyone hates EA...they make the best sports sims in the world....I love the Sega line of sports games but they're not in the same league as EA as to sports sims...

It's real, sadly. I think the DUMB thing is such a headline on a printed article, but hey, whatever.

I think the outrage, kstyle, is the fact that not everyone likes EA games, for one, and for two, they now have a monopoly, pretty much. That means, the shite you saw going on in Madden this year--such as the fatigue exploit, and the general "not up to standards" quality could continue on, because if you want the NFL players (and most do), you hafta buy EA, regardless of quality. Which just sucks.

Also, furthermore, what does it speak of EA's confidence in their product and game making ability when they have to buy out the NFLPA to have exclusive rights? Surely if their game was good enough, they wouldn't have to pull such bullshit. Oh, that's right, they were losing sales to the ESPN series, paticularly football, so they pissed their pants, shat their drawers, and then did what anyone with money would do: throw a bunch of money on the table (probably something ludicrous) to ensure your franchise is the best! The best...out of the only one out there!

That's a load of crap, it really is. Next year, I will buy every fucking ESPN sports game there is just to shove it in EA's shitty fucking face. They think they own the industry--I hope this move blows up and bites them in the ass.

I'm not a fan of monopolies but they did nothing that we wouldn't do in the same situation...it business...if I have the money to corner my opponent and try to destroy the competition I would do it as well...they owe it to their shareholders to make the largest profit possible within their ability. This will obviously help do that....maybe someday we'll live in a Eutopian society where people develop top rate games for free without concern for profit but thats not where we live now...I don't blame companies for playing the financial game thats on the table in this age we live...Maybe if Sega played a little harder they wouldn't be out of the console race...don't flame me as Sega is my favorite company with my favorite systems.

Either way you look at it, EA is still becoming a monopoly, and that is not a good thing. We need more competition so companies can make better quality games. EA saw how good Sega did with their ESPN franchise, and they rushed to the NFL to try and prevent them form ever doing so well again. It truly is pathetic. I have two words for EA... YOU SUCK!

Don't be redundant. Use either also or furthermore, but don't use both. ;-) :-D :smt023

Hold up...blame the NFL, not EA. The article notes five companies were bidding on the NFL license, no doubt including Sega. What is EA supposed to do if the NFL decides to make the NFL license only? Let Sega buy it? Let 989 buy it? EA is just doing what they have to do; the NFL is the one screwing consumers.

As the headline says.... Big Deal. So EA get to make even more crappy sports titles? So what?

Mobygames list 108 NFL games since 1979. 14 Developers listed. 16 Platforms.

Here are the amount of games by each developer:

    Acclaim 12
    EA 46
    IBM 1
    Infogrames 1
    Interplay 1
    Konami 2
    Mattel 1
    Microprose 1
    Microsoft 1
    Midway 13
    SCEA 11
    Sega 13
    THQ 2
    Williams 3

As for poor Sega...... well, EA was founded in 1982. Sega was founded in 1973. So technically, sega had plenty more time to acquire the license.

It seems to me that EA have made the majority of the NFL titles for a long time now, certainly since the mid-late 90s.

I really don't see what the problem is. ID Republix, do you have a PS2 or XBox? Because Sony and Microsoft washed Sega out the console market, didn't they?

Damn typing mistakes...I try not to do that AWS! :smt022

The problem I have with EA is their ridiculous muscling of all the small companies. The Criterion Engine, and the NFL license? That's what, two of the most lucrative video game pieces in the industry, no? And guess what happens with that? EA raises prices, leading to more shite cookie cutter games because it costs too much to release a game. In reference to the Criterion Engine.

EA will inevitably be sued, I can see it coming. :smt042

As Conan the barbarian once said when asked "what was good in life?":

"Crush you enemies, drive them before you in chains, and the lamentations of their women."

    "Yes, Conan, that is good!"

And good for EA as well.

CRUSH your competition is the general idea of the games industry, and I don't blame them.

Face it, SEGA will be relegated to themed pachinko and pachi-slots withing a year, yeah and a half tops. Did I mention lots of handheld ports?

Bah, even more bullshit. I always figured EA would try to either buy out the competition or make it to where they make the competition hault production of their own titles. Then again, it's also the NFL's fault for allowing a single company to become a monopoly over the other football titles. Doesn't exactly help that people loved the Sega football series, and EA being one of the most overhyped and buisness...y of the bunch.

EA sucks Donkey Balls. They kill everything they touch.

Bought out Blizzard, no new Diablo games. Bastards.

Bought out Westwood, no new C&C games (at least none that are any good. Generals, while decent, doesn't do the series justice. Plus they 86'ed Tiberium Sun II. Fags.)

    We should kill them all.

Business is war and the object is to take as much market share and make as much money as possible. Can anyone here honestly blame EA for taking advantege of this situation.
