I'd agree except for when someone breaks in I'd feel very secure with raking a shotgun to get their attention. Putting aside hypotheticals where they're packing heat.

 

In 9 out of 10 neighborhoods I don't think you need to carry a gun to be safe. That said this place seems to be the neighborhood #10. It is a personal choice but for myself, I would've looked into getting a CCW the day after stumbling across the Puerto Rican batting practice. That easily could have gone the other way and I damn sure would rather have more backup than just my feet.

Better to have and not need than need and not have...

That isn't the case here, there isn't anything wrong with owning a weapon for home protection, and it surely doesn't make you a "pussy."

If someone were to break into your home while you were sleeping, it woke you up, are you seriously going to run down there and start punching them? For all you know, they have a 9mm pistol with a full clip. You better hope you catch them by surprise; otherwise, you're pretty much dead.

I did, but neither me nor him said the perpetrator had a firearm of any kind, his words summed up to killing a bum with a shotgun if he steps into your house... Because you can! Sure. I never said anything about punching a guy with a gun. & If I start a fight with someone over petty shit such as theft, and they shoot me (even without a couple punches thrown in first) they are a pussy too.

I don't think I'd ever use it, but it was my father's "work" gun, so I don't want to get rid of it. People in Mexico until the 80s carried guns all the time. Every business man had one.

The thought of getting robbed by shitheads does wake my inner republican. If it came to be that a fucking wannabe narco piece of shit punk kid got into the house, thinking it'd be easy to rob a 70 year old lady (my mum), I'd fucking shoot him in the face in several ocassions.

I get less irrational thinking about it a longer time and I realise that it's likely that I'd get killed in the process.

In short, guns are just symbolic tools of "manhood" and "safety" - meant to never be used.

And people fucking suck.

 

it's the same here in louisiana. i used to live in a "bad" part of town with two of my friends. we were just hanging out playing rez one day and this vagrant walks into our kitchen out of nowhere. when he sees three guys over 6' staring at him, he starts to stutter about how he thought our place was for rent and wanted to check it out. however, he was holding a car stereo and out of breath. we caught him before he could get out the door and proceeded to beat the ever-living shit out of him. we threw him out the front door into the street and a cop car showed up almost immediately looking for him. turns out he bolted into our house to hide from the cops. whoops! we all had a good laugh after that one.

The fact to be able to legally buy a gun in the USA is the main problem. I agree with those who claim that it is necessary to have a gun when bad guys have one. The fact is you don't have the choice in terms of equality.
But to be honnest, selling guns is plain stupid. If guns were completly forbidden, then there would be less murder by guns and so less a need to defense with one.
I'm not stupid to think that if guns are prohibited, there will be no guns at all but at least it won't be easier as buying a candy bar like it is now....

 

That's a pointless statement that holds absolutely no water.

If guns were prohibited knife crime statistics would go through the roof. Your average 'work-a-day' career villain will use anything as a weapon if he thinks it will give him the upper hand, outlawing one weapon just causes them to move on to the next most intimidating thing they can find.
