Most people I know use the Right stick for acceleration/braking, though I suppose the triggers on the Sixaxis are more suited to that on the PS3.
It's unholy to play a driving game with a joypad, especially a game which gives you soo many options of which steering wheel you want. I don't remember Ferrari offering a playstation dualshock 2 joypad as a method of steering a 599.. Although until I get my GT Force pro sent to me, then I'll have to use a joypad with the analogue x and sqaure buttons, very easy to feather the throttle, just harder to use the stick to get precise steering control.
Waaa, the Nissan GT-R has been covered up in a red cloth and is unselectable. It seems a few more cars will be unlocked after the Tokyo Motor Show... In Japan there is a downloadable media program called "Mainichi Issho" and in this is "Toro Station" where you can get news on PS3 releases and many other things (sadly all in Japanese), still thought you'd be interested to see what they did with GT5 prologue... (apologies for the crappy SD pictures, but I've yet to find a cheap D4 TV...) Do you think they will let us take this BMW Z4 out for a spin? Kuro would rather be in a Ferrari garage. Out the way ya crazy cats... Are you excited for the release of GT 5 prologue? We are. These boxes don't go very fast! Project GT 5... ahhh I'm in love... Turn around, you're going the wrong way! Arrrgh, we're going to be killed....
Thanks for the pics Jamtex. These crazy cats are hilarious. Sony created them in the Pocketstation days, right?
Toro the White cat is an semi official mascot for the Sony Playstation brand in Japan and there have been a lot of Toro games for the Playstation (and Pocketstation), Playstation 2, PSP and the Playstation 3 (sort of). There is tons of Toro merchandise, most of it being cute stuffed toys of Toro. I just saw GT5 on the Toro Station screen and had to look as I knew it would be funny (my girlfriend did translate the text for me and it was funny). On another note, I am tempted to go to the Tokyo Motor Show just because they have a GT5 prologue stand... >_<
It ain't very good but I've recorded the whole torostation presentation on a digital camera and uploaded it to youtube. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL-_IYlDZ-E As another note, watching the Daytona Speedway demo closely I noticed that the game had some serious pop up issues. It's very noticable down the main straight as you notice lights and even an entire building in the background just appear...
so i guess i m was right in being a dick about the PS3's difficulty to code sufficiently fluent next generation visuals =)
Also apparently there'll be a Top Gear tie-in (including 40 episodes of the show and the test track!). I had no idea Polyphony were fans.
The two cars that were locked are now unlocked too. The Subaru STi is a blast, it powerslides (with some skill) around corners brilliantly. Hello Nissan GT-R again... As for Top Gear, I just hope the Japanese version has it, although I doubt it somehow....
That's hott, I'm not gonna lie. But I'd prefer my driver to have more of gangsta grip on the steering wheel. You know, one hand at the top and the other flash a gang sign to the driver next to him. But that's just me.
Wowwwww. It'll be interesting to see how the game evolves between this demo and the final version. Polyphony are pretty incredible when it comes to pushing hardware.
