http://www.xboxyde.com/news_4324_en.html http://www.xboxyde.com/news_4325_en.html definantly much improved over the leak alpha vids but still not spetacular. Feels more like halo 1.
Halo 3 is going to be an amazing gaming experience. Even if the graphics are jaw dropping right now, the gameplay is fantastic. Trust me I know.
Don't be expecting GOW type graphics though (which is a problem a lot of devs will face). Halo 3 is more free-roaming and has gameplay aspects that push the hardware differently. GOW pulled some tricks out of the book that were possible because the game was tailored at a design level to make the most of the strengths of the Unreal engine.
Its weird: some times it looks kinda good, then just decent, and some pics really look like crap... I gotta say though, the great level design and art sure helps a lot.
I don't really see what people rave about with Halo :-/ . The story was alright but presented very poorly, the level design was very boring, not much character interaction or variation in the game play. It's not a bad game, but just seen it all before...
I think the biggest thing is to remeber that Halo proved that you can have an awesome shooter on a console. Sure Goldeneye did that back in the day, but trying to play Goldeneye now...I can't stand it. Gameplay differences between Halo and Halo 2 were pretty minimal. Besides boarding, no fall damage, a few new enemies and weapons, Bungie didn't change much. In Halo 3, however, they've added a lot. Various new items (instant cover, bubble shield, cloak, this bomb that takes out a group of enemies' shields) that can be used at any time (via the X button), not just when you pick them up. New vehicles (a Brute version of the Ghost, mongoose). A lot of new weapons (Brute Hammer, Brute grenades, mobile turrets). The main difference though is the items. They add a much needed variety of playing options. Most people care just for the multiplayer. I tend to lean that way as well. However, the level design in the campaign is awesome. There were so many awesome moments where I just wanted to just jump up and yell and proceed to geek out. Can't wait for it's release...
Anyone can say what they want, but the first time I saw the beach part in Halo 1, I knew I was going to buy an Xbox. I really can't think of any console FPS before with a cool moment like that.
Halo is why I bought an Xbox. No one bought an Xbox for Obi-Wan or Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding. ;-)
Halo 3 looks like the same ol' same ol', as far as graphics go. What other new items and vehicles are we getting though? Brute Hammer? I like the sound of that. I like the tons of new playing options, too. Though I can see people being really, really cheap with it. Like, the person with the flag gets invincible and fast, or whatever. The option for flaming characters sounds, funny, too. Also, any new skins for MP? Or is it just Spartans and Elites again? Maybe Brutes?
I'm unimpressed with the graphics. If this is the trophy horse of the 360, then I am disappointed with the graphics. I'm sure the great multiplayer gameplay will still be there. It's not the models, but the terrain and textures. It just looks like they could've done a bit more.
Yeah the beach assault scene at Halo1 was epic, but the abysmal level design in the rest of the levels (fuck you library! and all the other mazes too!) kinda blew the whole thing... I heard is going to be a grab-stuff-n-release weapon, like the Gravity Gun in HL2. But hey, if you take a close look at halo it seems like almost everything in the game is a HL ripoff. Inspired by "Alien" my ass...
I keep hearing things about Halo being a HL or UT copycat, I still don't think they play anything like those...
Wow...they really are mediocre... I'm guessing they look nicer on screen, but some stuff in Metroid Prime 2 looks better, I think. Metroid Prime 3 looks a ton better... Is this just me? But, of course this is beta, and there definitely gonna keep polishing this thing until its amazing.
UT? not a chance, HL? hell yeah... At the time Halo was under development the HL mania was at its peak, and every small or new studio wanted to make the next HL. That, and the strong similarities between Halo and HL (an invading alien force, humanity loosing the war, the special armor system, open scenarios, strange NPCs like the Gman and 343, etc...) make me believe Bungie got a lot from the guys at Valve. I'm not saying its bad becos of that (some great games are ripoffs of others) but I'm friggin tired of casuals saying Halo is the best FPS "EV4R!!!11one" just becos its the first they play. I mean, c'mon, multiplayer? I was playing Duke Nukem 3D co-op back in 1996, before most of these Halo brats could even talk dammit....
I also think I read that the multiplayer Halo 3 wasn't the same engine (or version of the engine) as the single player. So single player could still look better (all released shots so far are multiplayer).
I played Halo on co-op a few times. It was fun, when my partner wasn't acting like an idiot. Which means it was never fun... Almost every Halo co-op game EVER: "This is boring." *Turns traitor*
