Doom 2 good enough for you then? One extra gun and a few enemies. Directly comparable to what Bungie did. Regardless, I absolutely agree that the Microsoft aquisition changed them, and it probably ensured their survival, but that wasn't what I took issue with originally - it was you saying that Bungie weren't able to pull off games at a level close to their competitors, when they evidently did, within that 94-96 timeframe.
Heh, wait until you guys get into beta testing it. They plan on having public beta testing May 16th to June 6th via Live. Here are the details. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/apr07/04-10Halo3MultiplayerPR.mspx That alpha screenshot is also pretty old.
I just watched some gameplay movies. Looks just like and seems to play just like Halo 2, but with new weapons and maps. I'm still interested in however. But I am NOT going to get my expectations sky high again.
Graphics usually are the last thing to get tweaked. I wouldn't worry about old Alpha screenshots. They are a placeholder while they get the game mechanics down.
Yeah, but that used an already complete engine (Unreal 3), which incidently they wanted to showcase to sell to other devs. AFAIK Bungie are using their own inhouse engine, which does not just become magically available in its entirety at the very start of the project! ;-) As time progresses I am sure Halo 3 will start to look much better. I wonder about those screens from the demo they showed last year though. I thought they were running in real time on real XB360 hardware
then please tell me why they'd officially choose to release any media that would potentially allow people like myself to criticize them?
Is it an official release or a leak? Indeed, seems odd that they would show alpha screens. I suspect it is a NDA breach.
IGN kiss too much ass to afford putting the IGN stamp on a leaked/NDA breaching image, even if they sourced it from somewhere else. Remember, IGN wants to have the *best* relations with developers , including Bungie, so I m sure it's not a leak. Besides, why would it carry the Alpha/Bungie watermark if it was anything but official?
it's not a rule Borman. When you have a debug version of a game it may or may not render with a watermark. For the limited number of screens available for the game, I think its not that hard to do them manually (batch file)
To go through and do individual build numbers by hand though? Waste of time. And the game itself has an alpha watermark when playing from the footage that has been shown
there was a new (at least for me) trailer for halo 3 at gametrailers.com a few days ago which did look nice gamewise but not so special graphics spoken so lets see what bungie can do http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2606
Hehe yeah, plus with the current schedule graphics should up and ready by now, or else there wont be enough time for a proper debug... EDIT: just saw that trailer. The worlds are sometimes kinda lame and in other cases gorgeous, character graphics are decent but not mindblowing, and movement is stiffy, which brings me to the main point: someone mantioned an advanced use of physics in Halo3, but for what I could see the ragdoll-physics were on the level of CS 1.6, with dead characters flying through the air in impossible ways, something that happens when your physics engine sucks and therefore it doesnt looks real at all. As I said before, I'm just waiting to see how the story ends. I just hope is not one of those lame, empty endings like the one from Matrix.
