I may be speaking out of line, here, but except for maybe a select handful of people and events, you shouldn't have much to worry about going to any country based on the actions of others of your same heritage. People in other countries are still people. Just don't be a dick and try your best, show respect, and you'll probably get it in return from nearly everyone.

Even if someone has reserves because of you being from X country, that just means you can prove to them that you're a cool person and that their hunch was wrongly had.

 

This is the land of biting one's tounge and pretending nothing is wrong. Due to the line of work I'm in, I'm in the underbelly quite often, with westerns from all places... loads of them Aussie. If it was an issue, I'm sure I'd have heard about it once in the last 12 years.

Just like other media, I don't think "average" stories ever really make it to the internet. It's either one way or the other. In my experience I'd say the Aussies brandish their heritage slightly more than the other westerners. That may be me though,.

EDIT: On a semi-similar note, I heard back in the World Cup in 2002 or whenever it was, the United Kingdom government gave Japan a list of those arrested for hooliganism, and basically told each individual to not bother going as they'd be rejected at customs.

 

That's 100% true and that's how it should be. Don't allow the pricks out of the country. This way your country's pride is saved.

Because a lot of us live here and know what things are really like. Most are decent people, but a lot are complete pricks. If you're hear long enough, you generally do experience different forms of racism. Just try renting a place to live. You're almost guaranteed to have a sour taste in your mouth after. I recommend visiting here for sure. Visiting here is awesome and I recommend it. Living here? Nope, I don't really. I preferred Korea (although my view is jaded having only spend a year there).

 

Poor Japanese have it bad as well. I think it's more accurate to say this place sucks if you have no social attachment to anyone rather than it sucks if you're a foreigner. Social attachment generally comes with new comers to a new land. Family disownment for whatever reason can result in an equally difficult life.

They are just as awful or even worse than Japanese in terms of Xenophobia on the business front. That is simply retarded and not good at all. No wonder all foreign firms are moving Asian branches to Honkers or Singapore.

From what I hear Korean whores will fuck white dudes, so that's an area where they're somewhat civilized.

The guy I went to Japan with wanted me to ask where all the hookers were and how much it would cost, and we were told because we were white they might give us a handjob at most, but that's about it.

 

This is actually not too bad in Tokyo if you can hold your own in a conversation. At least w/ my experience and those around me. The guarantor who is another issue altogether.

It's not much of a story really. It involved me partying with a few of my buddies in Korea when I was living there about four years ago when one of them gets the urge to get his hair cut at 3am. Take a guess at what sort of hair salons are open in Korea at that time. Anyway, it seems he woke up on a Korean futon with a very fuzzy memory, hangover and two naked middle aged Korean ladies next to him. That's all he would tell me, and that's all I know.
