Since I arrived in Korea 3 months ago I've gone from very casual smoker to a full 20 a day smoker.

Does anyone know of any good ways to stop?

It's ruining my health and my relationship and probably making me more stressed in this chaotic country.

go to a doctor. they have special drugs to aid stopping smoking, or nicotine based chewingum, plasters and such.

it's annoying but if you follow your doc advice you can really stop smoking. it all depends on how much you wish to.

    Patches and gum.

Drink coffee to take the edge off it.

He's not a heroin junky. Despite what popular media says, Nicotine isn't physically addictive. There's no need to ween, or waste time and money on shifting addiction from one form to the other... not to mention how hopped up he'll be if he substitutes coffee for nicotine. And finally, as someone that's chewed that nicotine gum... it's totally lame. Has anyone ever gotten even close to the satisfaction of a cigarette from the gum? I sure didn't.

1: Decide you're going to quit
    2: Buy this book:
    http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Way-Stop...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213689485&sr=8-1
    3: Read it
    4: Thank me later.

Here's the customer ratings. Apparently his clinics have 90% success rate as well. I quit at about a pack and a half a day, in probably the only place more smoker-friendly than Korea (Japan).

My one suggestion to do in tandem with the book is to take up some type of activity that is straining on the old wind bag. A sport, you can do every day (I chose running). As you quit, it'll get easier and provide motivation. You need the book though. Trust me.

I'm a time to time smoker. A few months I smoke 1 - 10 a day and then there times I'm absolutly cigarette free over a couple of weeks.

It worked for me to eat a carrot or anything similar every time I have the need for a cig. After some you have a sugar shock and don't want to consume anything else the day, including cigarettes.

Serious, this is how it works for me.

My Grandma and Grandpa used to be smokers, but one day she told him that they both needed to stop smoking, so, according to her, they both stopped cold turkey and they said they didnt really crave any when they stopped either.

If they kept smoking, I doubt they'd still be alive today. My Grandma is like 80 but if you saw her in public you'd think she was like 60. If she was still alive and smoking, she'd look like her sister, and sound like her, too.

    All great advice, thanks guys.

Korea is the worst place in the world to be a smoker, every waygook smokes and they're so cheap to buy.

I'm actually quite freaked out by the addiction, I've never had such a feeling before. At the moment I've just told myself i'm stopping and I haven't touched one at all today but christ do I want one.

nicotine is just an idea. I smoke from time to time, and I ve done smoking since I was 14 - not systematically mind you, occasionally.

However, lately I ve seen a rise in my tobacco consumption which doesn't really bother me per se for very one good reason.

Don't see smoking as a habit. Seeing it as one makes you want to "stop" it. Don't go down that road. Having a smoke every now and then is ok.

avoiding something completely is as bad as being dependant, because you re still controlled by it.

What I do is that I m so busy with other things that when smoking comes to mind, I just say fuck it. Not being bothered is the best advice I can give you.

Also, you ll find out that sex/wanking is a good stress reliever, and beats the pants out of smoking any day!

Finally, pot makes you want to smoke less - at least most people I ve seen don't want to have cigarettes when they're high and they avoid cigarettes when they're dry because they know its not the same thing.

They re responsible enough however to realize that pot and day to day affairs don't mix, so in the end they win =)

just wait to the third day, if you manage that far. Since the fourth day, then you just wake up with a normal bad breath. And your taste buds will have your old taste back. The first three days are horrible, the fourth day is great . After three weeks, your psyche will probably get a bit nervy , but if you manage that too. Then you are probably going to succeed. I managed to quit two years ago, but I didn´t manage to stop. Since after the three weeks, I began smoking again. If I really want to quit, then I stop on the Monday, and I know I am going to have three hellish days in a row. But if I get the urge to puff , then I am chewing on a liquorice root. And I suck on that root, like a maniac. Well not a maniac, but I hope you understand where I am heading.

Then he will still be addicted, and will get cancer some where else.
But it is quite popular in Sweden.

There is a book, called "You can leave it if you know how to", I heard that it is incredibly good, everyone in my family who has tried it hasn't touched a single cigarette in years.

Japan is worse if you're a gamer.
Arcades = smoke dens. I went to bars and was fine. I went to play Virtua Fighter 4, and got the fucking shakes. I had to stop playing for a couple of months when I first quit.

Buy the book. YOu can read it in a weekend.

Have you ever quit smoking? I quit for more than 3 days many times. 3 days is jack shit when you've been smoking for years. In fact, I quit for a week on a bet one time.

Have your doc tell you that you will not live another 5 years if you don't quit smoking.

Worked for my dad and he is so much healthier since he quit. He use to go through a few packs a day. If he didn't he most likely would have died by now.
