I just switched to an e-cig (the re-fillable type) 2 days ago from roll-ups. My god they taste like shit (they smell nice though). Working so far...

I don't want to kill people as much as I did the last time I quit.

I stopped cold turkey 4 years ago, after almost 10 years of smoking. Never smoked again since.

I hit my 10 year mark in October. (Bows). I used Alan Carr's book and never looked back.

I said it before, I'll say it again, that book is great and actually works!

I recommended it to friends who want to quit, and sometimes I am a bit dumbfounded by their reactions. Some hesitate starting to read it, in my opinion out of fear that it might work! Well, I won't force them to read it, but if they really want to quit, this works.

Im my experience, to quit smoking the first thing is that you need to REALLY want to quit. People will say they want to quit and that they should do it but in truth they do not really want to. They like smoking and they will procrastinate quitting.

Once you are determined to quit, that still does not mean you can do it, or do it easily, but at least your brain will be on your side.
I stopped smoking with no help but my own brain. And in total 4-5 nicotine gums.
After 2 weeks the worse of the craving was passed. ( But those two weeks really sucked )
After that you still have cravings but its not as bad. Unless you cheat, then the craving will reset. SO rule number 2 of quitting smoking DONT CHEAT.

Cravings progressively disappeared and after a few months i was mostly free except maybe when out and drinking with friends.
After the 2 years mark, my brain has been fully reprogrammed to despise smoking. Not a glimpse of craving left. The Idea of smoking now disgusts me.
