Coke. Actually, just try bubble gum or mint gum that's sugar free. that phenolyblahblahblahblah that is in it can kick that addiction as it makes you crave the gum more a bit (at least it does for me, but I don't smoke, just chew the heck out of gum).
Everyone is different. I use to smoke and used the patch to quite smoking. Some firends found drugs like wellibutrin worked better for them while others quite cold turkey. Sorry if it is not a difinitive answer but its getting to know what works best for you.
I did Liquorice root for a time too, really nice stuff, but stains your teeth something terrible! As has been mentioned, you have to want to quit and just get into the frame of mind to do it and keep yourself busy. You want a smoke? do the dishes, clean the bathroom, play a game, whatever.
thats the point, you'll have to see which way is the most uncomfortable one for you and choose that one!
I would suggest simply not doing it any more. Worked a treat for me & my (then) girlfriend. Not smoked for about 8 years now.
Liquirice is the Italian spelling of Liquorice, so yeah same thing, bits of wood that you make liquorice out of. American spelling: licorice
I make it a habit of not reading posts. Anyways, so you tried, and failed. Obviously one would assume your advice is not sound, no?
You know what I did to quit, I just found a weekend where I didn't have to do anything, and I just stayed in bed. Just stay home, play games, only get out of bed to eat and use the bathroom. You want to limit stress as much as possible. I ended up sleeping for like 13 hours that day, and it was somewhat tough the next day to avoid smoking. The real challenge was going back to work and watching all my friends smoke, that was hard. But you just gotta want it - patches and herbal remedies and such can help, but in the end you just have to want it bad enough.
This always made me want to smoke more. I was an on/off smoker for about six months. I quit shortly before I went to college and picked it back up once I started [kind of] seeing this girl. She stressed me the fuck out so I started smoking again to cope. After she told me she didn't want to talk to me anymore (which I was totally fine with because she's a psychopathic bitch) I smoked my last cigarette. That was back in March and I haven't smoked a cigarette since. I doubt my little anecdote helped out, so I'm just going to echo the statements of others here and say that you have to want to quit. I always knew smoking was a nasty habit, and what really bothered me the most is the fact it's extremely detrimental to your physical health. Stress is a fact of life, and there are easier ways to cope with it than introducing dozens (if not hundreds) of chemicals and toxins into your bloodstream to get a little buzz. Good luck.
The problem with "cutting down" is that it almost never works. Shoot me for being the one pessimistic one, but I've never known anyone to cut down to a few a day and leave it at that. Technically, you're still a smoker, and still using them as a crutch. But hey, it's a start!
You have to want to quit. Just be hard on yourself and force yourself not to buy any for 4 days. After that it is much easier to resist. But you have to expect it not to be easy and you have to have self control and will power. To this day I often crave a cigarette, but I resist. And I did it by going cold turkey. The hardest things to break are associations, like a cigarette with a pint of beer. Pubs always want me want to smoke, even though they are non-smoking these days. The thing that made me quit was the money and seeing someone squeezing out an artery of a dead smoker. All the shit that came out of that small tube was sickening. Something like this: http://freehosting.tomaweb.com/quitsmoking/scarystuff.htm. I didn't want that to happen to me and I didn't want it to fuck my body up as I got older. It's bad enough getting old without knowing then that you could have made things much easier had you not been a prat in your youth. Also, I'm sure a lot of people here that do dope will think the same one day. Every so often I look at this kind of stuff to remind myself of the reasons I quit, and it works. Hilarious. Also, smoking from time to time is bad for lung infections, you're killing the hairs in the lungs and trachea that protect the lungs and help prevent bacteria entering. It only takes a cigarette or two, but it takes weeks for them to grow back. Either smoke or don't, IMO.
Yeah, I was never able to just cut down. I tried that for like five years, just couldn't control it. I'll tell you all one thing though, I used to wake up and just feel like crap. It's been since last August when I quit, and I feel like a million bucks.
