    This thread will have lots of photos and a few video's o_O

    It should be called "Trigger's Broom" :D

    Part 1.
    My first Xbox was a black v1.4 with a standard 8gb HDD, an Akira modchip, a controller and a DVD remote with dongle.

    [GALLERY=media, 281]Burnt out Akira ModChip :( by Nidge posted Jul 15, 2015 at 3:34 PM[/GALLERY]
    Sadly the Akira has long since gone to "Silicon Heaven"

    I decided to find out as much about the Xbox as I could, since I didn't have one when they were first out. After much Googling I decided that an Xecuter 3 Modchip would be a really good idea. I managed to find an XB on ebay with an X3, the small bank switch panel and a 160gb HDD.

    So this then became my main Xbox, with of course the original controller and DVD kit ;)
    A few months later I came across a crystal console, I took it all apart, and cleaned all the casing in soapy water

    After letting the case dry throughly, I put it back together with everything transfered from the black X3. I didn't put the top metal sheilding back, so the inside could be seen through the top :cool:

    TIP removing the top metal sheilding doesn't do any harm, but if you remove the bottom sheilding as well you will get interference on your TV :(

    Next I thought LED's!!!

    End of Part 1.

    You would need to ground all the ground points on the bottom of the MB & PSU to get red of the interference.
    (Basically what the shielding does)

    Just grounding the points isnt going to do anything. All the ground points are already connected to ground. The shielding stops the interference getting to the PCB by sending it to ground, you need the whole area covered by the shielding to do this.

    The interference is actually from not having top part of the shielding. Surrounding piece isn't required so much, doesn't happen with stock AV cables or HD cables.

    Cheap shit cables require all shielding.

    To be legal, they require all the shielding. Else they are not FCC approved.

    Which shielding you "need" to not see interference is likely based on route of your cables and where TV is. But you should really leave it on, its there for a reason.

    To be fair, it does looks better without the top part of shielding. If OP has no interference then there's no problem

    I don't think the regulations in the UK are so strict on interference as they are in the States?
    I've used scart and component, cheap cables and official ones, only time I had interference was with no sheilding at all.
    Maybe I'm just lucky :)

    It isn't finished yet, as it stands at the moment, LEDs are just a dream let alone anything else you have done.

    So yes sir, you must continue

    Quite an old post, but my v1.4 works fine without the top shielding. It's just for show probably,as I haven't noticed any interference or fuzziness on the screen either.

    But thought I'd write a liitle more, this part will not have as many pictures and videos as part 1, sorry :(

    Part 2 of (well I realy don't know? lol)
    [GALLERY=media, 265]My Xbox 005 by Nidge posted Jul 7, 2015 at 10:11 PM[/GALLERY]
    This was my first attempt at LED's, cheated really as it was a round IDE cable with lights through it.
    The power was tapped from the hard drive port and a small transformer mounted under the DVD drive.
    I had to route the cable back and forth a bit to get it to fit, the mobo/master/slave connectors were in the wrong place. Same old story with IDE cables that aren't made for the xbox!
    By this time the Xbox was running a 400gb IDE HD.

    More to follow ;)

    Well the lack of proper internet saga continues :( I could write a thread on my adventures trying to get connected at my new house, anyone interested? lol

    Back to the Xbox ;) I decided to try adding LED's to the controller ports, it turned out to be easier than I thought.
