Why is America so fucked up? We pillage a nation for oil, and about half of the population really thought it was about freedom and WMDs. I don't know who's worse? The people that can't cope with stress, or the ones that vote for and believe a buffoon.

Think of the assholes that jump in front of express trains. Never mind the (quite literally) 100,000 or so people you make late for work, but the poor train conductor that has to watch you splatter on the windshield.

I had a friend that got smacked by a car when he was walking down the sidewalk. I've only heard of it in Japan a couple of times. In Honolulu though, a place that literally has less than 1/10th the population, it happened somewhat frequently.

Hang on, stop getting your cultural bearings from films and you might actually see beyond those narrow boundaries. Frankly, going to see "Braveheart" or "Rob Roy", "Highlander", "Local Hero", "Restless Natives", "Trainspotting", "Shallowgrave" or all the countless other Scottish films gives you very little if any real social and / or cultural awareness!

The same thing applies to US films or Japanese. I don't watch "Battle Royale" and think, my God Japan is screwed in the head!

All of the Japanese people I have ever met or had dealings with have been genuinely nice people.

You have those wacky gameshows, Hard Gay (who is hilarous) and just a general sense of weirdness from their entertainment.

You can tell alot about a culture based on their entertainment. This Country included.

 

Yes you can, but you can also see the infuriating hipocracy of others (such as Mel Gibson) coming along and filming an historical portrayal regarding the life of William Wallace, realise it was filmed in Ireland (mostly) for tax reasons, discover on viewing that it's incredibly inaccurate and be left wondering whether the rest of the world will take this to be what Scotland is truly like. I think that says more about the money making machine that the film industry steamrolls across history, culture and facts in the search of profits than it does about the genuine people of a country (or indeed the real place).

Entertainment is exactly that, unrealistic and designed to entertain.

If I was searching for the real Japan, I'd not look at Hard Gay (Say, Say! Yep, I too thought he was hilarious), but I would perhaps switch off the TV, put away my preconceived ideas and actually go look for myself!

If I then discovered through experience that Japan was "fucked" then so be it lol. Personally I'd love to go, but (getting back on track here) from what is mentioned here, I'd be looking up whilst walking the streets of Tokyo.

See the Danish film Nattevagten , which was later redone with Nick Nolte called The Nightwatch. The American is a lame ass shit movie(because of your censorship and cuts), the Danish version is socalled fucked to the common American mind. The American version of Riget (Kingdom Hospital) is fucked in my mind , in a funny way. Since the first four Danish episodes were scary as hell, where the last 4 episodes were just extremely camp funny. But Kingdom Hospital isn´t scary compared to the Danish version. So what is fucked in some peoples heads, are normal in other peoples mind. And to some people my country has been fucked for ages, but only now the Danes are beginning to see the real fuckyness of things, such as our Bush asskissing prime minister and other stuff. But what is fucked to some people, is common to other people. So live and let fucking live.
