Thanks Amiga, that guide was super easy.

    I have a version 1.1

Would like to know if its a keeper, or not.

    Is this good or bad?

    Cheers

    yes!
in a nutshell, the 1.6's are the worst, because of no TSOP possibility.
    but, yeah...KEEP IT! :smile-new:

this is the M$ green da$h you're on i assume?
you won't get more than that, BUT set it at max anyway, 16.9/60hz (widescreen)
    ...
the Y.Pb.Pr. cable is the smart move, you'll get ALL those options in UNLX da$h settings, the cable plugged in will read 'hi definition AV pack'..
so check all option 720p and prior in UNLX da$h settings. (1080i can work, but it can be god awful choppy, 720p is the pinnacle on the xbox)

    Thanks

Yes, the green dash. So leaving it as is, not hacking it, I assume I will get 480p with component. You say 720p, does this mean, games can run at that resolution as well, or its only for menus and videos?

Also, this new 1.1 console keeps forgetting the date settings, every time its switched on?

    Cheers

    :concern: SHIT!
the clock capacitor, those things can FAIL in a most spectacular fashion.
    if it's not keeping time:
1, the obvious conclusion would be, the console wasn't on long enough to leave the required residual charge in that POS capacitor.
2, the capacitor is fucked. (and when they go, they go and leak the electrolytes all over the motherboard, CHECK OUT THE INTERIOR CONDITION OF CONSOLE)
3, if the console has been serviced/seals broken, the last owner may have removed it WISELY. (or cut a leg breaking the circuit preventing inevitable degradation) i'm hoping for '3' here.
    ...
if you're not modding the console, keep this in mind:
the games played will ONLY output the maximum support, some do 480p, but not all.
it's UNLEASHX that has the Y.Pb.Pr. options, NOT the green m$ da$h.
    ...
please refer to my above response if you want the bells and whistles. (all you'll get out of M$ green is also what i stated above.)
the reason those UNLX options exist, is more for the homebrew aspect, like xbmc and playing vids (mkv/mpeg4) that are encoded at 720p. (higher and it struggles) :witless:
    [edit]
the lack of timekeeping is a fair price for safety and peace of mind.
if it's that important to you, i'll bug out and leave you to search the web on how to safely resolve it.

    Hey mate...

I pulled the console completely apart, to clean all the dust, there wasn't much, but knowing there was any, I had to go for it.

And, I mean completely, to bits!

I even rust treated the metal bit where the fan goes, as it was quite rusted.

Now its as good as new.

Found a guide on youtube, on which capacitor needs to be replaced.

    Cheers

good thing it's NOT a 1.6, because if you remove the capacitor, you shag the console...YIKES! :concern:
been a while since i pulled one out, found a forum with images and links (to llama) on what to do. this is from here, found it by web search. and another. think i'll have to hit up a friend to sort my crystal box, i'm not as stable at handwork as i used to be...:concern:
    ...
turn down the volume for this one, i just want to smash my computer, rambles on forever, skip at least a minute into the clip.

    Thanks dude!

I already assembled the consoles, so will give it a few days, before taking it apart again, and removing that cap.

Always wanted to try out the Duke controller, and now I finally understand why most people hate it so much...

Now off to play Golden Axe Warrior on Master System!

    Cheers for all the help!
