I think parts of Family Guy are kinda funny, but the series as a whole isn't very good. It's the kind of thing I only watch when nothing else is on.

I love watching family guy, cause the show is just meant to be funny and random. Of course there are some misses in the season.

Now if your talking about story, yea the stories in family guy have definitely gone down hill and are just in the background compare to the first two seasons.

Also this might be due to the fact the 2nd time they came back they could not get back most of the original writers due to them accepting work on other shows.

But with the simpsons, it really has been run into the ground. I would literally have to go into almost a whole page describing how bad things have gotten on the show.

Me I say season 8 was the last year of it's golden age. When the tennis episode came out I just stopped watching the simpsons all together. Awful show and with a really ridicules and dumb plot, I mean it didn't even seem like the same show anymore.

But that's what happens when you do a show for waaaay to long *cough*snl*cough*. But at the same time I can understand people not liking family guy. And that chart put up with the griffin family before and after I do fully agree with.

My sister is a massive Simpsons fan, so I was exposed to many of the earlier seasons through her collecting of the DVD boxed sets. In my opinion the series as a whole started losing its way after something like the fifth season, though it had the occasional highlight after this point. I first discovered Family Guy through a friend at college, and between us we had everything up to the show's first cancellation - honestly, there were nights I laughed so much it hurt!

Moving forward a few years and now Family Guy's survived more cancellations than a show past its prime deserves to, with nightly repeats here in the UK aiding my desensitization to what was once essential viewing for me. As for American Dad and The Cleveland Show, I find the former has its moments while the latter pissed off both myself and my partner in its first few episodes with that truly awful Ike Turner joke (my other half's not one for finding domestic violence funny, which I can appreciate based on my own history, too).

I know this isn't exactly relevant to the present topic, but I'm sure plenty of you by now will have read about the coming out of Ricky Martin... I'm not exactly what anyone would call a gambling person, but I'm willing to bet it isn't long before Seth McWhatshisname jumps all over this one because it's an easy shot and these days he goes more for a quick buck than actually making something that is remotely clever anymore. The new SNL, indeed!

I totally agree, although season 9 and even 10 had some nice episodes. And the tennis episode has to be one of the worst yet, other ones I really loathe are the alligator episode and the one where they go to Africa, but pretty much any episode from the last 10 seasons will have maybe one good joke at most.

One thing nobody ever seems to comment on is how the celebrity cameos have totally changed. They used to make fun of the celebrities, remember the Michael Jackson episode (before the whole pedophile thing) for example? Now they're all just "WOW, look, it's <insert celebrity here>! Isn't he awesome!". Particularly painful examples were Ronaldo in the WoW episode (which was terrible in itself, a crappy attempt to seem "hip" by the writers, even though they obviously knew nothing about games, and it came really soon after South Park had made a WoW episode) and Metallica in another newer episode.

There's also a crapload of product placement: I remember a fairly recent episode that mentioned/showed some actual games like Guitar Hero, where in the past they would've probably made up some parodies.

Another odd issue I noticed with some new simpons episodes when flipping channels, when they do a parody of something they use a fake name for it, when before they would just come out and say the exact name of what they were making fun of.

Like star wars they always did jokes on and now they use some weird name for it and instead of saying george lucas they make up an alternative name. Same with apple.

In an earlier season they made fun of the think pad and one of the bullies writes beat up martin but it comes out as eat up martin and he proceeds to throw it at martin.

But in a more recent episode they do an exact parody of the apple store and eveyrthing, but they give it a fake name and they do not even use steve jobs real name. I mean what gives? Are they afraid of being sued now?

Trademark infringement.... so yeah... You don't want to mess with George Lucas and Apple.......

Simpsons is alright. It is REALLY cookie cutter. Although I cannot think of the exact details, but they used the same plot for at least two episodes.

Family Guy still has some juice.

You just have to take these shows in small doses.

When you look at it all.... every sitcom and shitty TV drama out there has the setup and they go through the same lifecycle... where they begin 'fresh' (actually it's a rehash of other shows) and then they seem predictable in terms of plot twists, events, jokes, etc.

I watch these shows to laugh, not to learn and analyze. If it ain't funny I just change the channel.

The only TV show that really set the bar was Seinfeld. Sure it had its low points, but very few and towards the end, the show looked like it could go on forever.

You just don't see TV shows of that caliber anymore.

Friends is another one, but it's very different from Seinfeld and a lot of shows out there use the formula that show evolved into.

Haven't watched (or cared to watch) South Part after the first few seasons. In fact, the only thing from Trey Parker and Matt Stone I truly liked was Orgazmo (haven't seen Cannibal The Musical so can't speak on that one). Same with The Simpsons. They both became boring after a while.

I'll take Family Guy over both of those shows anytime.

I love all three. The simpsons are on a clear downward spirals since a few seasons back, though. I haven't watched past season 18, so maybe it sucks much more now. I'm still a fan and can recite some episodes from memory while drunk (or so my friends say)

Family guy has become hit and miss, lately, but season four was fucking hilarious. That law and order opening... man, tremendous. The recent stuff is not that bad, either, but I understand people who do not find it funny. It's a bit cliché already, yes.

Now, South Park I used to hate until I saw the movie. I laughed for like two days, and have been a fan ever since. And that episode when the internet is out globally? Pure. Fucking. Genius.

Also, that part with Mexico and the waterparks. I loved that, but maybe that's because I fucking hate our "president".

I think all shows are all over the place really.

Family guy is decent with a few gags that are good but alot of meh in the recent episodes. FG sometimes tries to be edgy but never goes far enough like south park. I take a lot of that deals with being on network tv. Dear god though, stop bringing back james woods.

Cleavland show has been a turd. It started out too much like FG, and recently has just gotten boring. Not to mention I don't care for them switching one of the voice actors already (new one sucks). Only thing I still like is the bear, just because it's a bear.

American dad is great. It could be better but I like that the show is entirely different then family guy and does things differently.

South park is good but their jokes are pretty much "what recent event do we mock this week" (sure much like family guy but done in a way it wont feel dated in a year). Also there was a time when south park got really bad for a few seasons. The recent stuff is so much better but nothing I care to watch more then once or twice.

Simpsons I enjoy just for the hell of it. Nothing good but still better to watch then half the other **** on tv. Plus on Saturday & Sunday they show a crap ton of old episodes during the afternoon (like 2-3 hours worth).

That was an Apple Newton ;).

I never thought Family Guy was very funny. Too much 'THIS IS A JOKE, GET IT!?'.

I'm in a superminority that feels that the Simpsons is still funny. I feel that most of the idolization of the early seasons comes from seeing reruns and always just seeing what would be the best of the best. Yes, the characters have become more... one dimensional to a point, but there were plenty of older episodes with similar problems.

Recently I've really liked the episodes from about the 15th season on where they have attempted to retell character histories in order to account for the fact that they've all been in the same place for 20 years. The episode telling of Marge's college time in 'the 90's' (originally the timeline had them graduating high school in the mid 70s) was fantastic to me.

I really hate that, the way they are ignoring the original storyline, I love those early episodes set in the 70s and 80's when Homer and Marge meet and first have kids. I'd much rather they didn't explain anything rather than putting in new crappier stories that just don't fit right. The characters still don't grow any older from their current age anyway, so they may aswell have still left school in the 70's and not be reaching pension age, who cares if it doesn't make sense.

I still watch new simpsons episodes, but they are nowhere near as good as they used to be. The stories in the early series were just much more inventive. They repeat storylines and even jokes now, and I don't accept the excuse that its because they have been running so long, thats just a cop out. I think it would be better if they did shorter series, or one series every two years, they need more time to make better epsidoes it seems.

I love South Park, they did reinvent themselves somewhat by involving current events, but they do it in such a clever way (much better than Simpsons do now). A fairly recent epsiode involving modern day pirates is a great example, the way they tell both sides of things is brilliant.

Family Guy, well I'll only watch it if theres nothing else on TV. The 'This is just like that time I...' jokes and spoof segments of movies thing they do don't make me laugh.

I agree the simpsons had real strong story lines early on, especially the first season. I still feel the episode where lisa was sad was ahead of it's time for any type of sitcom/animation written at that time.

I stopped watching the simpsons, its been unfunny for years but recently it became PAINFUL to watch.

The show went from comedy goldmine to a dumb-joke-string, and now is just pretentious crap, trying to be up-to-date by stating the obvious about stupid trends like twitter.

South Park has an average 80% of good episodes by season, and is still fresh, it has become what the simpsons writters think they're doing. The last episode "you have 0 friends" is spot-on the absurdity of social networks and e-popularity.

Family guy, I actually started watching it after the comeback since the first seasons were too dumb. The 3rd and 4th seasons were great, the 5th not so much, but they picked up after that.

The problem I see is that most of it is shock humor, so people who actually had to go through some tragedy wont find this show funny at all...

The clevaland show is crap, in fact I'm starting to believe the whole thing is seth's making fun of terrible spin-offs by making the worst one yet.

WTF? do you even watch the show? seriously, I think you dont and just talk about it...

Roger is an alcoholic ignorant loser who plays dress-up all the time, and Klaus is an east german perv who cant read.

Okay, I must be the only guy who thinks Family Guy really is hillarious. But then again, maybe it's just me. I just love random humor with a bit of mixture of craziness. Haven't watched it in a long while, but will probably try to catch up soon.
