I'm not going to get in the middle of any other part of this conversation except to point out that the mystichrome cobra was originally available in 1996 and that is (i think) the year that Kev has, but obviously he'd know and I am just going from my memory of the vid/pics from a ways back.

My opinion of you is zero.

    Zero.

You have the view that because I chose to do what I do, I should shut up and just pay. You have an issue with the boards supporting themselves. I should just financially absorb all the costs, and not try to raise any funds.

You speak out on things that you have never done or contributed to.
You pontificate to me without any real experience how to run my own site.

Bravo. I am sure I can run the site on $20 a month.

Maybe you'd appreciate what I do if I started charging you
    for features.

I have a 1996 cobra mystic paint scheme, it's one of 1999 built.

It has a teksid block 4.6 liter 32 valve V8 with
    aftermarket pulleys, heads, air intake,
long tube headers, high flow cats,
x pipe, and borla stainless exhaust.
A Pro 5.0 short shifter with king cobra clutch,
    4.30 gearing, aftermarket chip/ tune,
    O2 sensor, mil eliminators, larger
    Mass ais sensor, aftermarket radiator,
and changed rpm range with rpm
    / speed limiter removed with a 9000
    rpm redline. Eibach springs, shocks,
    strut tower brace, and brembo
two piston setup on all four wheels.

I'm saving up for a rebuild with forged internals
and biturbo setup with goals of 800bhp.
Currently the car is half that.

For just hosting, that is actually quite common nowadays. But, when you through in dedicated server costs, you usually end up over three digits.

Yeah but we're on a dedicated one here so I guess his argument is out the window. Shame.....I want near free hosting for my own site :(

The point is with a dedicated, we answer to no one.

No one can pull the plug with a letter from sony/microsoft, etc.

They have to send a letter to me, not my provider.

For years we had no freedom to post things on any of the hosts.

Freedom to do what you choose has a price.

Besides for $20 for 1tb, you're on a shared machine with 1000 other people,
    and the performance sucks.

Ill attest to that..Our site killed the server for 3 days :110: After that we got a slap on the wrist. Im still paying about $100 a year for 200GB b/w, so a link would be appreciated to these $200 a year 1TB hosts.

You run a small internet forum.

    LOLZ!!!! HYPUR LINKZ = http://www.dreamhost.com/

No one is interested in pulling the plug from Assembler. You think Nintendo Sony Sega MS even give a fuck about this place? If you were stealing brand new dev hardware, perhaps. No one gives to shits about your '85 Nes work stations. Roar got pissed becuase you were going to pirate a game 2 year of age (or there abouts).

There's little reason for a site this small to have a dedicated server. Certainly none I can see.

Again though, thats not dedicated hosting.

    http://www.dreamhost.com/dedicated/

    Thats dedicated.

    229 a month gets you:
    Includes...
    • Intel XEON 3.06Ghz
    • 80GB Hard Drive
    • 1GB RAM
    • 1TB Bandwidth
Theres your 1TB bandwidth. Only its almost 200 dollars more then the Virtual crap (Granted, I use virtual, but I dont host potentially damaging files, or pull in masses of people)

Like heck I am going to pay 229 month for hosting. I rather the 150 a year deal.

Obviously, but in refrence to my site, its still on a shared server right now. Im gonna transfer it over to this though as the B/W and space is a whole lot more and the price is even less!

It's good to see community spirit is so alive and well.
You can tell alot about a persons contribution to society by their attitude.
Why is it that everyone wants everything for free nowadays?

I couldn't agree more. Whats so bad with asking for some donations to get the board legal? I seriously dont see anything wrong with that at all. Kev is paying enough in hosting. He provides a service for us all to meet and trade dev items. Heck, why are people who didnt even donate even complaining? I dont get it

You know, the beauty of control over you very own site is that you can run rough shod over everyone elses opinions and ban a-holes at will. Kevin doesn't do any of that. He provides a place where we can ALL hang out and conduct business. Make no mistake about it, this is Assembler's site, but it's just as much all of our sight, as we all share information and make it thrive.

Having said all of that I can honestly say that I have no problem with supporting the site financially and I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity when it was needed.

Funkstar, if you really have such a problem with this small sight and it's not important enough to you to have a place to freely talk at the low cost of merely allowing others to donate while you keep your ungrateful pork trap shut the hell up then just leave. And yeah I mean freedom to talk about whatever we want. Maybe you never had anything removed from the old roar sight, but there were plenty of things that could not be posted there and/or had to be removed.

The point here is that you and I do not see all that goes on behind the scenes and we never will. I don't expect kevin to post an update every time something eventful happens and as such I don't act like I know how to run the site and laugh in his face.
