I had one come like that when I ordered one from an importer - the drive loader assembly just got wrecked!

However, I had a spare MCD with the 2nd generation disc tray and I just swapped it - same connections! Perfect. Got a partial refund too off the seller.

Well, I connected the Mega CD as Yakumo suggested me and it still sounds bad. :\ I don't know what could be causing it, it sounds bad in everything. Maybe some component is fried?

Wait, this is strictly an audio quality problem? Check out the capacitors. Surface-mount caps of a certain vintage were made with poor-quality chemicals and are prone to leakage. This is the cause of poor screen brightness in Game Gear units and loss of audio in Turbo Express handhelds. The original PC Engine Duo is also susceptible to this type of failure. It would not surprise me to learn that early Mega CD units are also failing in this way. It's relatively easy for a solo repair tech to replace surface-mount capacitors with standard electrolytic or tantalum equivalents.

What can cause this chemical problem? The Mega CD in question was bought from me and worked perfectly fine before I shipped it. It had been to Spain and back to Japan the back to Spain again before andoba finally received it. Do you think cold temperatures could have damaged anything? I'm interested in knowing for future storage of these older consoles.

High altitudes. You ever taken a Game Gear with you on an airplane? Changes in air pressure during shipping could easily cause a failure where there was none before. This happened to me with a Turbo Express I shipped to Australia. And it's maddeningly not consistent, so there's no way to prove or to disprove when it might happen. I would withhold judgement on this particular problem until we know for certain whether or not there are bad capacitors though.

hmm, mint boxed Wondermega Would probably set you back (after commission etc) about 300 US dollars or more. For a beaten up working Wondermega, maybe about 150 US dollars ?

of course it did. I've never ripped anybody off. You can ask any person on this board or NTSC-UK. I also have a perfect feedback on Ebay and 450 plus feedbacks on Yahoo Auctions.

    Simple answer.

    Correos

Anything I send to Spain is over packed and then some more. Ive still had items get damaged by them. They rival Parcel Force for crapness.

Really? dunno why but I was expecting a mint one to be more expensive......and a barely working unit to be a helluva lot cheaper:lol:

    Good price though:nod:

And andoba, if I remember something bad about Spain thats correos. One guy I know bought a DC from spain and the assholes (at correos) broke through 3 layers of cardboard. I swear one side looked like it had been kicked, and not by accident.

I think you should fedex your next console (or whatever company thats better than correos).

The problem we have is that in Japan EMS is the easiest and most common. In Japan the service is excellent but it's when the parcels get handed over to companies in countries that don't have EMS. For example, in the UK those wankers at Parcel Force handle the EMS stuff rather than the post office and again in Spain we have Parcel Force's Spanish brothers at Correos :(

A friend of mine coded Thunderhawk on the MegaCD. I remember him poring over the manual, looking up and saying 'this thing can do a mode-7 floor!' (Mode 7 was the generic term for those perspective floors SNES did so well). How did he make it bank? Well, the Megadrive allows you to change the Y-scroll every 16 pixels so the floor could bank. He then sheared the things he drew over the top so it looked like rotation...

Didn't like the game much, but he did get the thing singing. Oh, I started a Doom-type engine on it. I drew the floors as 1-pixel high lumps and the walls were drawn over the top.... and rotated 90 degrees....

It wasn't SUPER fast, but fine for a game... then Sega told use the number of units sold. We QUIT!!!
